The one-time tariff rebate artificially inflated the company&#8217;s gross margin. Without it, the company failed to beat analysts&#8217; expectations, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/30\/apple-earnings-live-updates.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">CNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/tech\/trump-threatens-tariffs-over-tech-tax\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">aggressively pursued global tariffs<\/a> after he returned to the White House, resulting in a shock to the global economic system and a wave of price increases on consumer tech products. <\/p>\n<section x-data=\"window.newsletter({ isDeal: false })\" x-init=\"init()\" aria-label=\"Newsletter Sign-Up\" class=\"relative invisible my-12 mx-auto w-full max-w-3xl md:my-16 ziff-component accent-cut-for-gradient-bg accent-cut-border-for-gradient-bg bg-gradient-fuchsia-secondary p-[2px]\">\n<p>\n            <span class=\"text-gradient-fuchsia-secondary\">Mashable Light Speed<\/span>\n        <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p>However, in February, the <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/supreme-court-strikes-down-trump-tariffs-tech-stocks-rally\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">U.S. Supreme Court ruled<\/a> that the Trump administration lacked the authority to unilaterally impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA), striking down <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/trump-tariffs-news-latest-updates-iphone-switch-2-framework\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">Trump&#8217;s signature economic policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, many companies \u2014 like Apple \u2014 became eligible for refunds for the tariff fees levied against them.<\/p>\n<p>Apple was one target of the Trump administration&#8217;s tariffs, and that&#8217;s not speculation. The president expressed a desire for the iPhone to be manufactured domestically (which <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/how-much-would-united-states-made-iphone-cost\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">most experts agreed was not technically possible<\/a>); at one point, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/trump-threatens-25-percent-tariff-apple-truth-social-post\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">threatened Apple specifically with 25 percent tariffs<\/a> in a <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/114556874484491575\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">Truth Social post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n    <iframe src=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/114556874484491575\/embed\" class=\"truthsocial-embed\" style=\"max-width: 100%; border: 0\" width=\"600\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>Apple wasn&#8217;t the only company that faced tariff costs in the billions.
