However, sources tell the trade that the characters may still appear in future Marvel projects.<\/p>\n<p>Premiering in January, the series\u2019 first season follows <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/tag\/yahya-abdul-mateen-II\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yahya Abdul-Mateen II<\/a>\u2018s Simon Williams as he purses a life-changing film role with the \u201caid\u201d of his new friend, <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/tag\/ben-kingsley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sir Ben Kingsley<\/a>\u2018s Trevor Slattery. The co-leads were praised for their dynamic, and Abdul-Mateen is up for a Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy. <em>Consequence<\/em> even named <em>Wonder Man<\/em>\u00a0our <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/list\/best-tv-shows-of-2026-so-far\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">No. 1 TV show of the year so far<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>Disney+ did not reveal official viewership data, but the show did hit No. 8 on the Neilsen streaming originals charts the week of its release, although it fell out of the top 10 thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the cancelation comes as a surprise. With general critical acclaim, Abdul-Mateen\u2019s Emmy nom, and co-creator and two-episode-director Destin Daniel Cretton on the verge of a massive hit with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/07\/spider-man-brand-new-day-review-marvel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em><\/a>, reneging on a\u00a0<em>Wonder Man<\/em> Season 2 at this point seems odd. It\u2019s fair to ponder, then, if there are actually\u00a0<em>bigger<\/em> plans for Abdul-Mateen as Wonder Man, perhaps in\u00a0<em>Avengers: Secret Wars<\/em>, or a rebranding of <em>Wonder Man<\/em> Season 2 as\u00a0<em>West Coast Avengers.\u00a0<\/em>Maybe a\u00a0<em>Wonder Man<\/em> solo film?<\/p>\n<p>Whatever\u2019s next for the character, it wasn\u2019t revealed during Marvel\u2019s recent Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con.
