But the only way the team is going to realistically compete in the AFC North and for a deep playoff run is if the defensive side of the ball takes significant strides.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"id\/article\/slide\/5459982\/element\/10\">\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">The defense was an ugly 31st in the league in yards allowed and 30th in points allowed last season after finishing 25th in each category the previous campaign.
