{"id":22420,"date":"2026-07-30T21:54:59","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T16:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=22420"},"modified":"2026-07-30T21:54:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T16:54:59","slug":"trump-says-he-may-pull-todd-blanches-nomination-until-cornyn-and-tillis-leave-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=22420","title":{"rendered":"Trump says he may pull Todd Blanche&#8217;s nomination until Cornyn and Tillis leave office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p><em>Washington <\/em>\u2014 President Trump on Thursday said he has &#8220;no objection&#8221; to withdrawing Todd Blanche&#8217;s nomination for attorney general until Republican Senators John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina leave office in January, as their concerns have effectively placed Blanche&#8217;s nomination process on hold.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cornyn in particular has demanded that the Justice Department and Blanche formally put in writing that the <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-anti-weaponization-fund-dropped-republican-revolt\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">DOJ&#8217;s &#8220;anti-weaponization fund&#8221;<\/a><\/span> won&#8217;t return, and has demanded changes to the president&#8217;s <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/senate-democrats-push-trump-affiliated-companies-irs-settlement\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">personal IRS settlement<\/a><\/span> agreement related to the fund. Cornyn said he isn&#8217;t prepared to vote &#8220;yes&#8221; without an agreement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Senate Judiciary Committee was set to vote on advancing Blanche&#8217;s nomination Thursday, but late Wednesday, announced it had <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/todd-blanche-nomination-trump-attorney-general-on-hold-doj-anti-weaponization-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">delayed the hearing<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, Mr. Trump has suggested he&#8217;s willing to wait out Cornyn and Tillis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Todd Blanche is a STAR, and everyone knows it!&#8221; the president posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/117009581290419286\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Truth Social<\/a>. &#8220;He has the potential to go down as one of the Greatest Attorney Generals of All Time. However, John Cornyn, of Texas, and Thom Tillis, of North Carolina, both of whom I refused to Endorse, and whose political careers have been ended by my action, are refusing to vote for this Great Nominee, who will remain, in any event, as Acting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The president added. &#8220;I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd&#8217;s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Cornyn said he received an updated offer from the Justice Department Wednesday night and sent back a counter proposal. But he said he&#8217;s getting some pushback from &#8220;higher ups&#8221; at the White House. (AP Photo\/Mark Schiefelbein)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>                  <span class=\"embed__credit\"><\/p>\n<p>                Mark Schiefelbein<\/p>\n<p>                          <\/span><br \/>\n              <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tillis seemed more optimistic about a resolution, but said he believes someone at the White House is &#8220;giving the president bad advice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The only reason why we wouldn&#8217;t move forward with this language is because that same adviser wants to bring it back to life at some point,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Cornyn said he and Tillis aren&#8217;t the only senators with concerns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;POTUS is mistaken if he believes concerns about the provisions in his tax lawsuit settlement are limited to me and Senator Tillis,&#8221; Cornyn <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JohnCornyn\/status\/2082851774143021356\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted on X<\/a> Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>GOP Sen.
