Created by Jonathan Tropper and inspired by Marissa Stapley&#8217;s 2021 novel of the same name, <em>Lucky<\/em>, which released its two-part premiere on Apple TV last week, marks <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/queens-gambit-anya-taylor-joy-netflix-keeps-getting-better\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anya Taylor-Joy&#8217;s triumphant return to television<\/a> six years after <em>The Queen&#8217;s Gambit<\/em>. In <em>Lucky<\/em>, she swaps out chess-playing skills for con artist savvy as the titular protagonist.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<p>As badass as she is, Lucky is in the unenviable position of being pursued by both the FBI and the dangerous criminals whose $10 million she stole with her husband, Cary (Drew Starkey), who has not only gone missing but taken the cash with him. What follows is an action-packed, state lines-crossing cat-and-mouse chase, only the mouse in this case happens to have nine lives.<\/p>\n<p>While not a total critical darling, the Apple TV series has still earned a respectable 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, with most of the pundits praising the show&#8217;s &#8220;<em>propulsive<\/em>&#8221; nature \u2014 including myself in my <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/lucky-tv-review\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Lucky <\/em>review<\/a> for <em>ScreenRant<\/em>. Audiences certainly agree, as <em>Lucky <\/em>has appeared on Apple TV&#8217;s global top 10 list of most-watched shows every day since its premiere (via <a href=\"https:\/\/flixpatrol.com\/title\/lucky-2026\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>FlixPatrol<\/em><\/a>). By the looks of things, neither the show&#8217;s action nor its success will let up in <em>Lucky<\/em>&#8216;s remaining three episodes.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"lucky-is-a-7-episode-big-budget-blockbuster-action-movie\">\n                        Lucky Is A 7-Episode Big-Budget Blockbuster Action Movie<br \/>\n               <\/h2>\n<p><em>Lucky <\/em>may be a small-screen story, but it&#8217;s big in spectacle and easy to imagine some of the show&#8217;s inventive and, in some cases, death-defying chase sequences getting an uproarious reaction if they were screened in a packed movie house. Whether it&#8217;s evading both FBI Agent Billie Rand (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) and gangster enforcer Dutch (Clifton Collins Jr.) in a labyrinthine Vegas casino or escaping capture by two thugs twice her size who have her bound and locked in the trunk of a car, Lucky knows how to get herself out of a sticky situation in the most thrilling ways possible.<\/p>\n<p>The excitement doesn&#8217;t let up either, as <em>Lucky <\/em>continues to top itself in each subsequent episode. The show has both style and substance in spades, with Lucky fleecing a designer outfit, purse, and luxury car from a ridiculously fancy children&#8217;s birthday party being one of the coolest scenes on TV in recent memory.<\/p>\n<p>As much of a thrill ride as it is, <em>Lucky <\/em>isn&#8217;t reinventing the wheel when it comes to the crime thriller genre. We&#8217;ve seen cool chase scenes and morally grey protagonists use their ill-begotten skill sets to escape danger before. However, the vast majority of these <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/tv-anti-heroes-rooting-for\/\" target=\"_blank\">TV antiheroes<\/a> are men, often with size and strength on their side, \u00e0 la Alan Ritchson&#8217;s Jack Reacher.<\/p>\n<p>Rarely do we get to see a woman in such roles, which is what makes <em>Lucky <\/em>such a breath of fresh, high-octane air. &#8220;<em>How can someone so small cause so much trouble?<\/em>&#8221; Dutch asks throughout the series. Having made it from Nevada to California, it feels like Lucky could slip <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/video\/lucky-annette-bening-jonathan-tropper-cassie-papas-lauren-neustadter-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\">Priscilla (Annette Bening)<\/a> and Rand&#8217;s grasp across the entirety of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, earlier this year, Stapley announced that she was writing a sequel novel to <em>Lucky<\/em>, set for release in summer 2027 (via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cosmopolitan.com\/entertainment\/books\/a70758049\/marissa-stapley-lucky-sequel-no-such-thing-as-lucky-announcement\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Cosmopolitan<\/em><\/a>). This would mean that a potential <em>Lucky <\/em>season 2 would have source material, which is a boon for adaptations, as most shows that extend past their literary stories, like <em>Game of Thrones<\/em>, <em>Big Little Lies<\/em>, and <em>The Handmaid&#8217;s Tale<\/em>, often suffer for it.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, just because there&#8217;s a second <em>Lucky <\/em>book in the works doesn&#8217;t guarantee a second season of the Apple TV series. <em>ScreenRant<\/em>&#8216;s Ash Crossan interviewed <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/timothy-olyphant-lucky-season-2-apple-tv-addressed-eps-showrunners\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Lucky<\/em>&#8216;s executive producers about a second season<\/a>, with EP Lauren Neustader revealing that the show &#8220;<em>was always architected<\/em>&#8221; to be a limited series. Tropper added that <em>Lucky <\/em>was able to cast A-list talent like Taylor-Joy, Bening, and Timothy Olyphant precisely because it&#8217;s a &#8220;<em>one and done<\/em>&#8221; show, and the actors&#8217; busy schedules would likely prevent them from coming back for more.<\/p>\n<section class=\"emaki-custom-block emaki-custom-tip\" data-nosnippet=\"\">\n<div class=\"emaki-custom tip\" id=\"custom_block_14\">\n<div class=\"custom_block-content tip\">\n<p>New <em>Lucky <\/em>episodes are released weekly on Wednesdays on Apple TV, with the finale airing on August 19, 2026.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>This may be for the best because <em>Lucky<\/em>&#8216;s masterfully taut storytelling is a big part of its appeal, and expanding a world like that is always risky. However, the classic &#8220;<em>never say never<\/em>&#8221; tease came up in the interview, so don&#8217;t totally write off <strong><em>Lucky <\/em><\/strong>season 2 yet.
