Heaton<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The <em>Everybody Loves Raymond<\/em> star posted a video in July 2021, sharing an exciting milestone. \u201cIt\u2019s July when we celebrate our nation\u2019s freedom. Also celebrating three years of freedom from alcohol for me,&#8221; she said while on a three-mile hike. &#8220;Just wanted to share that with you. And message me if any of you are thinking about doing that, any of you are doing that now and need some encouragement or anything at all. Have a great day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Middle<\/em> star revealed her kids were the reason why she decided to get sober in a candid September 2021 interview on the <a href=\"https:\/\/drugfree.org\/article\/heart-of-the-matter-patricia-heaton\/\">\u201cHeart of the Matter&#8221; podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While she drank shooting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/ray-romano\/\"><strong>Ray Romano<\/strong><\/a>-led sitcom, which ran from 1996 to 2005, her drinking got worse after her four sons moved out. \u201cI just noticed that if it was 5 p.m. and I don\u2019t have anything to do the next day, I would start drinking automatically,\u201d the actress said, adding that she \u201creally started looking forward to drinking and thinking about it in a way that I hadn\u2019t before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, it was a birthday dinner for one of her sons that made her realize she had a problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just filling my glass with red wine throughout the five or six hours that we were together. I don\u2019t know how many glasses it was, and I felt completely sober and fine,\u201d the <em>Carol\u2019s Second Act<\/em> star said. \u201cI was making a joke to the table, and I started saying, \u2018You know, in our family it\u2019s a tradition \u2026\u2019 And I could not pronounce the word \u2018tradition.\u2019 I tried three times, and I couldn\u2019t say the word.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of her sons remarked on her inability to say the word in front of everyone. \u201cAnd I was so humiliated,\u201d she says, adding, \u201cIt shook me up. I thought, \u2018That\u2019s it. That\u2019s it\u2019 \u2026 It had every element that I needed.
