The news of his passing has inspired a flood of social media tributes, with politicians, musicians, and actors alike remembering The Frames frontman and star of <em>Once<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>President of Ireland Catherine Connolly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbYUJfcMp3k\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">shared a statement<\/a> calling Hansard one of the country\u2019s \u201cgreat singer-songwriters,\u201d describing his band The Frames as \u201cone of the leaders of the thriving wave of Irish bands who emerged in the 1990s and were the source of so much inspiration to a generation of young people and musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Connolly continued,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cWhether with the Frames, with [The Swell Season bandmate] Mark\u00e9ta [Irglov\u00e1], or as a solo artist, Glen was renowned for his incomparable live performances, beautiful evenings of music where Glen would regale audiences with stories as well as his music, along with that of many of those who had touched his life over the decades.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Glen will also be remembered for the generosity with which he shared his fame, providing encouragement to young musicians and performers, while working to assist with important causes, in particular those suffering from homelessness, with his annual Christmas Eve busk in Dublin\u2019s city centre one of the highlights of the Christmas period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>Former president Michael D Higgins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbYBzdpOEzR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">remembered<\/a> Hansard as \u201ca wonderful musician and performer, a troubadour whose gift for storytelling brought so much joy to audiences across the world\u201d and also praised the singer for his work with the homeless.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes I would wonder if Glen Hansard really existed,\u201d\u00a0U2\u2019s Bono <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbYlq7CT-SX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">wrote<\/a> in a lengthy statement. \u201cSeriously, he was such an angelic presence\u2026 not otherworldly\u2026in fact, very present this presence\u2026 A smiling rascal if you needed him to be\u2026 this most musical and mischievous archangel of Ballymun\u2026 no airs, plenty of graces\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bono continued, \u201cTo be utterly yourself by being more interested in others \u2013 a clue for any of us trying out different personas. He really was who you thought he was. He could never walk by a person living rough without checking they were OK\u2026 and more than that, he worked very hard so that less people had to live on the streets in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the crowds got bigger and for safety\u2019s sake Glen had to agree to move the busk to a stage kindly provided outside The Gaiety Theatre, he would say \u2018we\u2019ll give it our best but it\u2019s not a busk if we\u2019re not on the street!\u2019 \u2026because that\u2019s who he was \u2013 a performer at eye level in any situation,\u201d he added. \u201cThe stage was a separation he wouldn\u2019t recognize. Of all the grand and gigantic venues he and The Frames played, you sensed the street was his most favoured place to perform. And street people, his favourite audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He concluded, \u201cVoice of the streets. A choir of angels in one man. The rest of us blessed to stand there beside our very own and very earthed Angel Gabriel\u2026 All of us welcome in his choir, whatever shape or form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bruce Springsteen posted an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbYWaubld1Y\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram statement<\/a>, which reads, \u201cHere on E Street, we are heartbroken over the death of Glen Hansard. We met in Ireland many years ago, and he was always nothing but a great musician, a good friend and a generous and gracious man. Always positive, smiling, and ready to sing. God bless him and his loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hansard\u2019s band The Frames honored him in an Instagram post, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbYfGJoxVce\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=ApGHzLy6BnZW9ukPNYnVZGb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">writing<\/a>, \u201cGlenn was a force of nature, a troubadour from a different time. He had that unique ability \u2013 to bring people together \u2013 that was his medicine, his great gift\u2026 He was princely man, a warm and generous human who was always inclined to bring the stranger in from the street and share the stage with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds member Warren Ellis wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbYI28eIi4z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram<\/a>, \u201cI can\u2019t believe it, Glen. You were a good man and loyal friend. Traveling overnight to see Dirty Three in Boston recently. Always above and beyond. And always about the music, the blah blah, the dogs, and the meaning of it all. Sending my love to your family, bandmates, and friends. Heartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>West Side Story<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Snow White<\/em> star Rachel Zegler, who joined Hansard on stage in New York City for a performance of his Oscar-winning \u201cFalling Slowly\u201d this past April, shared an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbYHWlflp_G\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram carousel<\/a> of her best memories. In the caption, she wrote, \u201cOh, I will love you forever. Rest now, my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Waterboys singer wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MickPuck\/status\/2082421490968912076\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">X\/Twitter<\/a>: \u201cJust heard that Glen Hansard has died. Travel on well, Buddy. You made your dreams come true. I\u2019m so sorry that he leaves his wife and 3-year-old child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Olivia Vedder, daughter of Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, called Hansard \u201can uncle, collaborator, friend, bonus dad, and favorite songwriter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>See more tributes below.
