{"id":21741,"date":"2026-07-30T06:33:52","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T01:33:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=21741"},"modified":"2026-07-30T06:33:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T01:33:52","slug":"just-in-senate-judiciary-committee-postpones-vote-on-todd-blanches-ag-nomination-after-gop-senators-object","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=21741","title":{"rendered":"JUST IN: Senate Judiciary Committee Postpones Vote on Todd Blanche\u2019s AG Nomination After GOP Senators Object"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5696530\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5696530\" class=\"wp-image-5696530 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/am14.mediaite.com\/med\/cnt\/uploads\/2026\/01\/blanche-4.jpeg\" alt=\"Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche looks on during an announcement at Department of Justice headquarters in Washington, D.C., Nov. 19, 2025.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5696530\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Francis Chung\/POLITICO via AP Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Senate Judiciary Committee will postpone the vote on <strong>Todd Blanche&#8217;s<\/strong> Attorney General nomination, originally scheduled for Thursday, after objections from several GOP senators on the committee remained unsatisfied.<\/p>\n<p>Blanche previously served as Deputy Attorney General during <strong>Pam Bondi\u2019s<\/strong> tenure, and President <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> appointed him to acting Attorney General after her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/tv\/fox-news-peter-doocy-confirms-bondi-is-out-as-ag-but-says-theres-no-bad-blood-trump-still-likes-her\/\">ouster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping the gig on a permanent basis, however, requires <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/tillis-threatens-to-block-blanches-confirmation-if-he-doesnt-meet-with-epstein-survivors\/\">Senate confirmation<\/a>, and Blanche has drawn notably\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/nyc-bar-sends-letter-opposing-todd-blanches-ag-nomination-calling-him-unfit-to-lead\/\">vocal criticism<\/a>, if not outright hostility, from thousands of former DOJ employees, former judges, attorneys, bar associations, and other legal advocacy groups \u2014 plus even some pointed public commentary from the Republican Senators who will decide his fate.<\/p>\n<p>Blanche\u2019s role in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/lawcrime\/reason-magazine-comes-out-swinging-against-confirming-todd-blanche-as-ag-brazenly-corrupt\/\">purported \u201csettlement\u201d of a complaint<\/a> Trump and his family filed against the IRS is one of the main <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/key-gop-senator-says-hes-on-the-fence-for-trumps-ag-nominee-after-tense-exchange-at-hearing\/\">stumbling blocks<\/a> for Sens.<strong> John Cornyn<\/strong> (R-TX) and <strong>Thom Tillis<\/strong> (R-NC), both of whom are leaving the Senate in January after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/online\/cornyn-sounds-off-on-save-act-latest-texas-polling-im-not-gonna-say-i-told-you-so-but\/\">losing a primary<\/a> to a Trump-endorsed challenger and deciding to retire after clashing with the president and facing similar threats he would back a primary opponent, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement agreement shielded the Trumps from any liability for tax violations and created a $1.776 billion \u201canti-weaponization fund\u201d that was swiftly denounced as a \u201cslush fund.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Democrats on the committee are all voting against Blanche so he can only afford to lose one Republican senator to survive the committee vote and get a chance for a full Senate vote, giving both Cornyn and Tillis an individual veto power to block the nomination.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Cornyn told reporters he would only support Blanche&#8217;s nomination if the DOJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/key-gop-senator-not-prepared-to-support-trumps-ag-nominee-as-vote-looms\/\">revised the settlement agreement<\/a> in writing to make it clear the &#8220;anti-weaponization fund&#8221; was dead and to clarify that it was &#8220;not designed to provide prospective immunity from tax audits.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Later in the day, Cornyn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/cornyn-torches-trump-over-claim-endorsement-snub-drove-him-to-oppose-blanche-a-convenient-excuse\/\">cancelled<\/a> a meeting he had with Blanche as his conditions about revising the IRS settlement had not been met.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Wednesday, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman <strong>Chuck Grassley<\/strong> (R-IA) met with Cornyn and Tillis in the Texas Senator&#8217;s office to discuss Blanche&#8217;s nomination.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed_container\" id=\"1a9e2b07eed4c55b9079163565207f20\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CHUCK GRASSLEY and THOM TILLIS just arrived to Sen.
