{"id":21727,"date":"2026-07-30T06:16:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T01:16:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=21727"},"modified":"2026-07-30T06:16:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T01:16:43","slug":"amy-winehouses-father-ordered-to-pay-almost-1million-to-the-late-singers-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=21727","title":{"rendered":"Amy Winehouse\u2019s father ordered to pay almost \u00a31million to the late singer&#8217;s friends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div xmlns:default=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/amy-winehouse\">Amy Winehouse<\/a>\u2019s father has been ordered to pay\u00a0almost \u00a31million to two of the late singer\u2019s friends after losing a High Court case over the sale of her belongings.<\/p>\n<p>Mitch Winehouse must make interim payments of \u00a3569,330 to the singer\u2019s former stylist Naomi Parry and \u00a3394,521 to her friend Catriona Gourlay within the next two weeks.\u00a0He has also been ordered to cover their legal costs on an indemnity basis.<\/p>\n<p>The order follows the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/amy-winehouses-father-mitch-loses-claim-against-late-singers-friends-over-sale-of-her-belongings-3941345\">dismissal of his claim against the two women in April<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Acting as the personal representative of his daughter\u2019s estate,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/father-of-amy-winehouse-accuses-friends-of-secretly-selling-her-belongings-for-700000-high-court-hears-3917316\">Winehouse claimed that Parry and Gourlay had profited from selling items connected to the singer at auctions in the US in 2021 and 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that the women had deliberately concealed their intention to sell the possessions and sought more than \u00a3700,000 from them.<\/p>\n<p>Parry and Gourlay\u00a0maintained\u00a0that Amy had either given them the items or that they had already belonged to them.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DaY3fVNjKJh\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Deputy High Court Judge Sarah Clarke KC dismissed Winehouse\u2019s claim in April, finding that neither woman had deliberately concealed the disputed items from him.<\/p>\n<p>She also concluded that he could have established which items they possessed by exercising \u201creasonable diligence\u201d, and found that he had known about the intended sales before the first auction took place.<\/p>\n<p>In a costs judgment handed down today (July 29), Clarke said Winehouse had chosen to pursue an \u201cinherently weak claim\u201d both \u201caggressively and relentlessly\u201d, while asserting that\u00a0his allegations had significantly damaged the women\u2019s \u201creputations, career prospects, financial security and health\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The judge added that Winehouse had \u201cdeliberately turned this case into large-scale and expensive litigation\u201d in an attempt to exert commercial pressure on the defendants.<\/p>\n<p>Clarke said his conduct was particularly serious because Parry and Gourlay were two women who had \u201cstood faithfully by Amy\u201d,\u00a0as well as by Winehouse and his family.<\/p>\n<p>The items included a silk minidress worn by the singer during her final performance in Belgrade in 2011, which was sold for $243,200 (\u00a3182,000), as well as clothing, accessories and other memorabilia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/various-artists\/58212\">Winehouse died from accidental alcohol poisoning at her Camden home in July 2011<\/a>, aged 27.<\/p>\n<p>Last week marked the 15th anniversary of her death, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/amy-winehouses-mother-leads-tributes-and-reflects-on-15th-anniversary-of-her-death-she-was-a-victim-of-her-own-success-3958649\">her mother Janis leading tributes and reflecting that she had been \u201ca victim of her own success\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-rolling-stones-reflect-on-losing-amy-winehouse-it-was-like-saying-goodbye-to-billie-holiday-again-3955147\">The Rolling Stones<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-rolling-stones-reflect-on-losing-amy-winehouse-it-was-like-saying-goodbye-to-billie-holiday-again-3955147\">\u00a0also reflected on their friendship with the singer\u00a0<\/a>after recording a cover of \u2018You Know I\u2019m No Good\u2019 for their album \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/the-rolling-stones-foreign-tongues-review-3955956\">Foreign Tongues<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Ronnie Wood recalled trying to support Winehouse during her struggles with alcohol, saying: \u201cI\u2019m sad because she didn\u2019t do her full span.
