He owns a 2.79 ERA this season.<\/p>\n<p>He also reached his 1,000th career strikeout during the game, becoming the fastest left-handed pitcher to do so since Hall of Famer Randy Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor some reason, strikeout marks hit differently for me,\u201d Skubal said after the game. \u201cReaching 200 strikeouts for the first time was a huge milestone for me, and as I was getting close to 1,000, it just felt really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For potentially the last time as a Tiger, Detroit fans <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/29\/sports\/tarik-skubal-gets-ovation-for-1000th-strikeout-in-possible-final-tigers-start\/\">gave their ace a standing ovation<\/a> for the milestone.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal watches from the dugout during the seventh inning of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles. <span class=\"credit\">AP Photo\/Paul Sancya<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Though Skubal said the ovation was \u201cspecial\u2019 and he is trying to \u201clive in the moment,\u201d yet another loss only raises the odds he\u2019s moved before the Aug. 3 trade deadline.<\/p>\n<p>After the Orioles series, the Tigers sit 51-58, second to last in the AL Central, and are four games off the final wild-card spot.<\/p>\n<p>Skubal is 4-3 with a 2.86 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 53 1\u20443 innings since returning from an experimental elbow surgery, piquing the interest of teams such as <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/29\/betting\/tarik-skubal-trade-odds-surge-as-dodgers-brewers-emerge-as-favorites\/\">the Brewers and Dodgers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline is Detroit\u2019s last chance to get a return from Skubal.
