However, the newly engaged couple are kidnapped minutes later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhile chatting with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/the-rookie-cast-filmed-alternate-season-8-ending-canceled-exclusive-12028626\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/people.com\/the-rookie-cast-filmed-alternate-season-8-ending-canceled-exclusive-12028626\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">People<\/a><\/em> at Comic-Con 2026 over the weekend, Winter said, \u201cWe didn\u2019t know when we wrapped last season if we would ever come back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDue to the uncertainty about the show\u2019s future at the time, he explained, \u201cWe even shot an alternate ending to the show\u201d that \u201cwould\u2019ve been different.\u201d However, Winter didn\u2019t offer any details about the alternate ending, as it would be a \u201cspoiler.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tABC officially announced that <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/the-rookie-will-trent-renewed-2026-27-abc-1236562557\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/the-rookie-will-trent-renewed-2026-27-abc-1236562557\/\"><em>The Rookie<\/em> had been renewed<\/a> for a ninth season in April. It didn\u2019t come as a big surprise, as the police procedural is a <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/cross-platform-tv-ratings-rookie-tracker-1236521847\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/cross-platform-tv-ratings-rookie-tracker-1236521847\/\">high performer for ABC<\/a>, ranking in the top 15 network entertainment series among adults 18-49.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cAnytime we find out we have another season with this great group of people, it\u2019s an exciting time,\u201d Winter said of the renewal news.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhen chatting with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/melissa-oneil-the-rookie-lucy-season-8-music-interview-1236463543\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/melissa-oneil-the-rookie-lucy-season-8-music-interview-1236463543\/\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em> ahead of season eight, O\u2019Neil shared her reaction to the way fans ride or die over Tim and Lucy\u2019s onscreen relationship, aka\u00a0Chenford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s one of those special things that I think you can write for it as much as you want, but unless all of the right elements and spices kind of come into play, it might not work. So I feel really grateful,\u201d she said. \u201cHe\u2019s a wonderful professional scene partner to have, and all of the material that we\u2019ve been given is special. But we have a good friendship and a chemistry that I think parlays really well into the relationship, especially because we started off not only with a power dynamic, but there was a little bit of \u2026 we chirp each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>The Rookie<\/em>\u00a0also stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T.
