Trevor Phillips, who joined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/cbs-news\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cbs-news_1\" data-tag=\"cbs-news\">CBS News<\/a> as senior global affairs correspondent, will also be a contributor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThey join existing correspondents Bill Whitaker, Lesley Stahl, and Jon Wertheim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNew <em>60 Minutes<\/em> executive producer Nick Bilton announced the hires in a memo Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe new correspondents are part of a major overhaul of the venerable Sunday evening show, which is now being overseen by Bilton, who was hired by CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss in May in a restructuring that saw the show\u2019s former EP ousted alongside correspondents Cecila Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi. Bilton told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/60-minutes-nick-bilton-interview-1236608681\/\"><em>THR<\/em> at the time<\/a> that he was interested in pursuing more \u201cgonzo journalism\u201d and that he had his eyes set on new correspondents who are \u201cspecialists in different fields, and they are all going to be the best in their field, the best in the business, they are incredible storytellers, incredible investigators, fearless,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOf course, soon after he joined, the show nearly imploded, with veteran correspondent Scott Pelley ripping Bilton and Weiss in a staff meeting, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/scott-pelley-fired-60-minutes-heated-meeting-cbs-news-1236610557\/\">after which he was fired<\/a>. The remaining correspondents very nearly quit, before agreeing to stay on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe feared that our returning might be construed as an endorsement of the existing power structure.
