John Cornyn said Tuesday, amid a struggle over changing a settlement agreement Blanche brokered between President Donald Trump and the IRS.<\/p>\n<p>Cornyn (R-Texas) said a delay in the planned Senate Judiciary Committee vote Thursday is \u201cbeing discussed but hopefully \u2026 won&#8217;t be necessary\u201d as he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/07\/27\/congress\/john-cornyn-red-line-blanche-01013201\" target=\"_blank\">pushes for ironclad modifications<\/a> to the IRS settlement that created a $1.8 billion \u201cAnti-Weaponization Fund\u201d and immunized Trump from tax audits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there&#8217;s not enough votes to confirm him, then Senator Grassley might decide to postpone it. But I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s the No. 1 goal right now,\u201d Cornyn said, referring to Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).<\/p>\n<p>Cornyn said he had discussed the idea of postponement with other senators but not directly with Grassley. A spokesperson for Grassley did not immediately respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Cornyn and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who has also been undecided on Blanche\u2019s nomination, have significant leverage.
