Everyone in the show hates her, and they act as though everyone in the audience does, too. When it becomes clear that an episode is heading into a Meg-centric storyline, Peter offers the clicker to the audience and says no one would blame them if they changed the channel. <\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/family-guy-chris-meg-funniest-quotes\/\" target=\"_blank\">I love Meg, and I love her storylines<\/a>. She\u2019s easy to root for, because she\u2019s an underdog. Everyone is rooting against her, so she has to fight tooth and nail for everything she gets, and that\u2019s inspiring to see. <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/family-guy-moments-made-viewers-quit-show\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Family Guy<\/em> doesn\u2019t always stick the landing<\/a> when it\u2019s trying to show the tragic side of Meg\u2019s life \u2014 that one episode where she resolves to let the family keep abusing her so they can release their pent-up anger is unbelievably toxic \u2014 but Mila Kunis\u2019 delightfully natural performance always captures Meg\u2019s humanity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/family-guy-mila-kunis-couldnt-believe-joke-aired\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kunis has been inextricably tied to the role of Meg Griffin<\/a> for the past two-and-a-half decades \u2014 whether she\u2019s in a situationship with Justin Timberlake or competing on the ballet scene with Natalie Portman or helping Benoit Blanc solve his latest case, she\u2019s always the voice of Meg Griffin \u2014 but she\u2019s not the only voice actor who\u2019s played Meg. Kunis wasn\u2019t the first choice to play Meg, and she wasn\u2019t even the first person cast in the role.<\/p>\n<p>Before Kunis was cast, there was an unaired pilot, a casting search, a full season of the show, an actor who dropped out, and another casting search. And even after Kunis was cast, one more voice actor came in to help bring Meg to life. Rachael has appeared in a number of her brother\u2019s projects \u2014 most notably playing <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/american-dad-abandon-premise-show-saved\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stan Smith\u2019s hippie daughter Hayley in <em>American Dad!<\/em><\/a> \u2014 but she\u2019s also carved out a fascinating career for herself, voicing characters in <em>StarCraft II<\/em> and <em>Codename: Kids Next Door<\/em> and serving as a production manager on <em>The Grim Adventures of Billy &amp; Mandy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Rachael MacFarlane was an incidental cast member on <em>Family Guy<\/em> for a few years, popping up as random voices in the background and one-off roles in cutaway gags, but she was almost a member of the main cast. She voiced Meg in the unaired pilot episode that Seth created in order to pitch <em>Family Guy<\/em> around town. This claim is unsubstantiated, but Summer is an extremely prolific voice actor, so it would make sense for the creators of a new animated series to offer her a role.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s voiced characters in <em>SpongeBob<\/em>, <em>Adventure Time<\/em>, and <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum<\/em>. Today, Chabert is best known as Gretchen from <em>Mean Girls<\/em>, Gwen Stacy from <em>The Spectacular Spider-Man<\/em>, and Kaycee from <em>Bratz<\/em>, and she\u2019s even been crowned the \u201cQueen of Hallmark Christmas Movies.\u201d She would\u2019ve made a fine permanent Meg, but <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/lacey-chabert-family-guy-meg-departure-reason\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chabert dropped out of the role after season 1<\/a> due to her busy school schedule and her contractual commitment to her then-still-ongoing role as Claudia Salinger in <em>Party of Five<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Chabert\u2019s voice work can still be heard in season 2, because a handful of episodes produced for season 1 ended up being released in season 2. Since <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/family-guy-best-meta-jokes\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Family Guy<\/em> has a penchant for breaking the fourth wall<\/a>, the show has often drawn attention to the fact that Meg\u2019s voice changed between seasons 1 and 2. In the season 10 episode \u201cBack to the Pilot,\u201d when Brian and Stewie traveled back in time to the events of the pilot episode, Meg is voiced by archival recordings of Chabert from the actual pilot episode.<\/p>\n<p>In season 11\u2019s \u201cYug Ylimaf,\u201d when Stewie accidentally reversed the flow of time, he pointed out that they\u2019d gone so far back that Meg\u2019s voice had reverted back to Lacey Chabert. Following an extensive process of auditions and callbacks, the role finally went to Mila Kunis, and Kunis has been playing Meg ever since. Kunis\u2019 voice could first be heard in season 2, episode 3, \u201cDa Boom,\u201d the iconic Y2K what-if episode.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Kunis was already a renowned sitcom star, thanks to her role as Jackie Burkhart on <em>That \u201870s Show<\/em>, but <em>Family Guy<\/em> introduced her to a global audience, and set her up for a thriving movie career. After stepping out of Meg\u2019s shadow, Kunis starred in everything from the hit comedy franchise <em>Bad Moms<\/em> to the Oscar-winning psychological thriller <em>Black Swan<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/ted-movie-mila-kunis-role-casting-story\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kunis even starred in MacFarlane\u2019s feature directorial debut, <em>Ted<\/em><\/a>, as Mark Wahlberg\u2019s love interest (and a hilarious deadpan foil for the titular talking teddy bear).<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a famous but unproven claim that often gets floated around that <em>Family Guy<\/em>\u2019s writing staff turned Meg into the Griffin family\u2019s punching bag because they didn\u2019t know how to write a teenage girl. Whether it\u2019s true or not, it certainly seems like that\u2019s the case. But Kunis elevated that one-note role into something surprisingly human. She captured the tragedy at the heart of Meg\u2019s character, and really made us feel bad for her. She brought a spirited tenacity to Meg as she rolled with the punches, bided her time, and picked her moments to stand up for herself.
