Image courtesy NOAA<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p><span class=\"story_dl\">July 28 (UPI) &#8212;<\/span> Hurricane Genevieve remained a powerful Category 4 storm Monday night in the Pacific, according to forecasters who said it was bringing life-threatening surf and rip-current conditions to the Baja California Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>The storm was located about 505 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, the National Hurricane Center said in its 8 p.m. MST <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/text\/refresh\/MIATCPEP2+shtml\/280235.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">update<\/a>. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 145 mph and was moving northwest at 12 mph.\n<\/p>\n<p>No coastal watches or warnings were in effect, though forecasters said swells generated by Genevieve were affecting portions of the southwestern coast of Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions,&#8221; the NHC said.<\/p>\n<p>Although it remained a major hurricane, forecasters expected it to steadily weaken over the next several days, during which it is forecast to move northwest to west-northwest.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hurricane Genevieve, in the eastern Pacific, was a category 4 storm with winds in excess of 145 mph.
