There’s been a dozen different remasters and special editions but despite being 15 years old now I’ve never heard anyone talking about remaking it.

If the next game is still two or three years out why didn’t they try and fill the gap with a Skyrim makeover? Seems such a long time since people were talking about that series. I can’t help think that it’s basically run its course and Ubisoft would be better off spending the money on making something new.

I know making a success of new IP is supposed to be difficult but does anyone but Ubisoft think a multiplayer spin-off of Far Cry is going to be a hit? The previous games had co-op anyway, so I don’t think maxing out on that idea is going to make much difference. There’s so little in Far Cry that has to be in it – first person and open world is basically it – you could be a lot more imaginative than that.
Sutur

Desk jockey
I hope Capcom knows what it’s doing with trying to have a new Resident Evil every year. They’re flying high at the moment, but they can easily end up in the weeds if they’re not careful. After Resident Evil 0 and a new Resident Evil 1 the only remakes they’ve got left are 5 and 6, and I really don’t know if they’re worth doing.

Even if they are, after that there’s nothing left and you would’ve thought they’d have to rely on spin-offs instead. I’m confused as to why they say at least one a year and yet no spin-offs, so I can only assume they are counting DLC as a release.

If I were them, I would advise getting creative with spin-offs. Revelations is underrated but I miss the days when you used to get lightgun games and weird portable games and, who knows, maybe they’ll even make a good multiplayer game one day.

Personally, I’d try and expand out with other types of games. Maybe something more detective based, like Return Of The Obra Dinn or something – which already had horror elements anyway. Or a straight point ‘n’ click adventure or visual novel, like Phoenix Wright. Or maybe some kind of strategy or management game.

If they’re going to keep aging the characters up realistically maybe they could make a game where Leon’s given a desk job and he’s ordering people around, a bit like Dispatch. Then at the end he’s called out for one last mission. Call me Capcom, my consultancy fees are very reasonable!
Jager9

Not done yet
I’m also a little worried that Tomb Raider may have passed its sell by date. Like the other reader, I’ve liked all the things I’ve seen of the new games so far but is it too little too late?

Crystal Dynamics have been making these games for so long and I thought they might be a bit worn out by now and should probably give it to someone else, but it really looks like it could be their best work. Considering the trouble they’ve been through the last few years that’s impressive. I hope they get a chance to shine.
Cobalt84

God of planning
With a second new God Of War game now announced, and maybe not going to be out until 2031, I wonder how far exactly this story is planned out. Unless the next one is suddenly going to be the end of the story, which seems unlikely, do they have things sketched out for decades at a time? A decade sounds like a long time but really that’s only time to make two triple-A games, so it’s not much really.

They said they’ve been planning to make the game with Faye for at least a decade, so is there other stuff seeded in there that we’ll only find out about later? I don’t really want to know ahead of time, I’m just curious, because it seems like it’s the only franchise that is planned out at the moment. Don’t tell me that they’ve got a proper plan for Call Of Duty or Assassin’s Creed or whatever, because I won’t believe it.

It’s cool in theory but you’ve got to wonder who is ever going to see it all. Is Cory Barlog going to be working on these into his 70s? When the older games get more than 20 or 30 years old will they have to be remade again and again, to keep them playable for new generations? Like the Resident Evil games.

Not saying they shouldn’t do it but it seems like a lot of work to me. And what happens when the actors are no longer available? Are they going to be recast or will they use AI? Having a franchise last forever must sound good to publishers but it almost seems like more trouble than it’s worth.
Tingle

Inbox also-rans
Been playing Splatoon Raiders over the weekend and I enjoy.
