Kennedy Jr.\u2019s<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/11\/21\/us\/politics\/rfk-jr-cdc-vaccines-autism-website.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">vaccine skepticism is well established<\/a> \u2014 and yet the HHS Secretary is not moving fast enough on the issue for President <strong>Donald Trump\u2019s<\/strong> liking. <\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/policy\/trump-rfk-jr-cut-vaccine-children-78582411?mod=hp_lead_pos7\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> and reporter <strong>Liz Essley Whyte<\/strong>, Trump confronted Kennedy back in May about \u201cwhy he wasn\u2019t doing more to probe the alleged connection between vaccines and autism.\u201d Kennedy was reportedly \u201ctaken aback\u201d \u2014 as White House staffers had asked him to tone down his rhetoric on vaccines ahead of the midterms. But Trump himself contradicted that directive. <\/p>\n<p>Essley Whyte wrote Trump wants to see Kennedy \u201cdo more to reduce the number of shots that federal guidelines recommend for children,\u201d with Trump believing autism rates would eventually drop as a result. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issue has been an ongoing point of tension between the two men,\u201d Essley White wrote. \u201cIn a mid-June meeting in the Oval Office, the president vented to Kennedy that he wasn\u2019t doing enough, people familiar with the matter said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president has made clear he thinks he has given Kennedy enough time and is disappointed the health secretary hasn\u2019t accomplished more in the past year and a half, the people said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Journal\u2019s report on RFK comes on the heels of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2026-07-26\/at-trump-s-hhs-mehmet-oz-seen-as-heir-apparent-to-rfk-jr-as-health-secretary\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg feature<\/a> on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator Dr. <strong>Mehmet Oz<\/strong> \u2014 who is reportedly seen as the \u201cheir apparent\u201d to Kennedy. The Journal is now likewise reporting Oz is a serious contender to replace RFK Jr. at some point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president often calls or texts Oz on health policy matters that have nothing to do with his agency, people familiar with the matter said, and Oz takes responsibility for ensuring the president gets what he wants,\u201d Essley Whyte wrote. \u201cOz advised the president on marijuana ahead of an executive order in December to loosen restrictions on the drug, some of the people said.
