href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4607661\/kevin-feige-david-jonsson-secret-meeting\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4607661\">David Jonsson<\/a> being crowned as the new <a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4606998\/black-panther-david-jonsson\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4606998\">Black Panther<\/a> in a surprise announcement at this year\u2019s star-studded Comic-Con in San Diego.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The special moment unfolded during Marvel\u2019s always-epic Comic-Con panel where Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4606998\/black-panther-david-jonsson\/\" id=\"4606998\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Black Panther 3<\/a><\/em> before bringing out Ryan Coogler to thunderous applause.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Feige, <em>Black Panther<\/em> <em>1<\/em>, <em>2<\/em> and now <em>3<\/em> director Ryan Coogler met with Jonsson in a <a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4607661\/kevin-feige-david-jonsson-secret-meeting\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4607661\">\u201csecret meeting\u201d<\/a> before quickly realizing he was the perfect fit to take up the mantle as T\u2019Challa\u2019s son.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe hadn\u2019t started a search yet,\u201d Feige <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.empireonline.com\/movies\/news\/black-panther-3-david-jonsson-cast-six-months-ago-secret-meeting-exclusive\/\">explained during an interview with <em>Empire<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRyan was working on <em>Sinners<\/em>, and when Ryan works on a project he\u2019s all in. So the presumption very much was we would sit with him after <em>Sinners<\/em> came out, after the Academy campaign. We were waiting \u2019til after the Academy Awards to sit with Ryan and begin that process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA month and a half or so before that process, he called me and said, \u2018I found him.\u2019 I said, \u2018What do you mean?\u2019 He goes, \u2018I found him. He\u2019s this guy, David Jonsson,&#8217;\u201d Feige continued. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe mentioned his movies. I had seen some of them. I watched more. He goes, \u2018I\u2019m going to meet him.\u2019 He had a secret meeting with him under cloak of darkness in a hotel somewhere, and called me afterwards and said, \u2018He\u2019s the guy, he\u2019s the guy, I felt it. I felt it in my soul. He\u2019s a good man, and he is the next Black Panther.\u2019 And I got chills, and I got a little welled-up and said, \u2018Let\u2019s do it.\u2019 So we\u2019ve been sitting on this secret for a good five or six months.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jonsson, who made a lasting impression in <em>Alien: Romulus<\/em> and <em>The Long Walk<\/em>, radiated with a warm humility while flanked by Black Panther royalty, Letitia Wright, and Winston Duke, who welcomed him to the blockbuster franchise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI want to say thank you so much,\u201d Jonsson told the electric crowd. \u201cThank you, Ryan. Thank you, Kevin Feige. Thank you to this amazing family that I honor. It\u2019s a privilege and blessing to join.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t want to say too much because I want to let the screen do the talking,\u201d he said. \u201cBut believe me, the honor is entirely mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naturally, social media erupted with excitement over the long-awaited casting which also stirred up hilariously petty jokes aimed at <a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4158504\/damson-idris-lori-harvey-art-basel-miami\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4158504\">Damson Idris<\/a> who was seemingly the frontrunner for the role.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether he actually was the frontrunner to play Black Panther, we can\u2019t confirm, but we\u2019re sure he\u2019ll be amazing as the star of <em>Children Of Blood And Bone<\/em> in theaters January 15, 2027.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What was your reaction to David Jonsson being crowned the new Black Panther?
