George Harrison was the only one I really liked. He was the nicest guy.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/paul-mccartney\">Paul McCartney<\/a>\u00a0wrote a few decent songs,\u00a0yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davies has previously recalled Lennon being fiercely protective of The Beatles\u2019 equipment when the two groups played together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wouldn\u2019t let us touch anything,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2018Don\u2019t\u00a0you dare touch those!\u2019 He was a paranoid guy, but funny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After reports of his latest comments were published, however, Davies clarified that he remained a fan of the Liverpool band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the Beatles and I do appreciate all the kind words Paul McCartney has said about the Kinks,\u201d he wrote on X.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I like the Beatles and I do appreciate all the kind words <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PaulMcCartney?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PaulMcCartney<\/a> has said about the Kinks <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/T9jaGK7jcU\">https:\/\/t.co\/T9jaGK7jcU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dave Davies (@davedavieskinks) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/davedavieskinks\/status\/2080705227632578755?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 24, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The rivalry between the groups\u00a0dates back to\u00a0the\u00a0early stages\u00a0of The Kinks\u2019 career, when they appeared below The Beatles at Bournemouth\u2019s Gaumont Cinema on August 2, 1964.<\/p>\n<p>The show came two days before the release of The Kinks\u2019 breakthrough single \u2018You Really Got Me\u2019,\u00a0which went on to give them their first UK Number One.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/ray-davies\">Ray Davies<\/a>\u00a0later recalled Lennon making a dismissive remark about The Kinks being there solely to warm up the audience, only for their performance of \u2018You Really Got Me\u2019 to receive an ecstatic response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d\u00a0played with The Beatles in Bournemouth and John Lennon made a remark that we were only there to warm up for them, but we got a great reaction to \u2018You Really Got Me\u2019,\u201d Ray told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mojo4music.com\/articles\/stories\/ray-davies-the-kinks-v-the-beatles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>MOJO<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an early validation that we had something that stood up for us, like being bullied in school and having something that was bigger than the bully. It was that sort of feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dave\u2019s\u00a0new comments\u00a0came as he and Ray opened\u00a0<i>The Kinks: Brothers<\/i>, their collaborative exhibition with British portrait painter Christian Furr.<\/p>\n<p>The collection reimagines a 1968 passport photobooth picture of the siblings taken in East Finchley, North London, through a series of\u00a0mixed-media\u00a0works on paper and canvas. The exhibition will run at Gibson Garage London until September 6.<\/p>\n<p>The brothers recently said they were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-kinks-ray-and-dave-davies-are-getting-on-great-and-would-never-say-never-to-a-reunion-3958660\">\u201cgetting on great\u201d and would \u201cnever say never\u201d to a future Kinks reunion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s miraculous, really, how we\u2019ve become so bonded,\u201d Dave said. \u201cWe enjoy each other\u2019s company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ray and Dave last performed together in 2015, when Ray joined his brother in London for a rendition of \u2018You Really Got Me\u2019.
