The revelation came during his appearance on the latest episode of Suicide Silence guitarist Chris Garza\u2019s podcast.<\/p>\n<p>The metal veteran has disclosed his medical condition two years after <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2024\/08\/coal-chamber-postpone-tour-medical-emergency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">postponing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2025\/01\/coal-chamber-cancel-2025-us-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eventually canceling<\/a> a Coal Chamber tour in what was described at the time as a near-death medical emergency of a blackout and vertigo. That episode followed previous <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2023\/03\/dez-fafara-unable-tour-overseas-covid-heart-problems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heart problems<\/a> stemming from a 2021 battle with COVID that prevented DevilDriver form touring overseas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vivid-seats.pxf.io\/c\/1882189\/952533\/12730?subId1=devildriver%2Adez-tumor-button&amp;subId2=&amp;subId3=&amp;sharedid=&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vividseats.com%2Fdevildriver-tickets%2Fperformer%2F8993\" class=\"button button-ticket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Get DevilDriver Tickets Here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In his conversation with Garza, Fafara revealed that doctors found a tumor in his head roughly two years ago. \u201cThe vertigo thing really fucking threw me off, dude, \u2019cause it was a great Saturday afternoon,\u201d began Fafara (as transcribed by <a href=\"https:\/\/blabbermouth.net\/news\/coal-chamber-and-devildriver-frontman-dez-fafara-they-found-a-tumor-in-my-head-almost-two-years-ago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Blabbermouth<\/a>). \u201cI\u2019d been running miles and miles on the treadmill every day, and all of a sudden I had vertigo out of nowhere, and that took me out for almost a year. They had to do all sorts of MRIs and all sorts of crazy shit to me to figure out what the fuck was going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cYou don\u2019t wanna say this stuff before you book tours or before you\u2019re doing deals or before you\u2019re going out. But for, I would say, over a year, maybe almost two years now, we\u2019ve been dealing with a situation where they found a tumor in my head. So, they want me back in every six months. It\u2019s gotta actually grow a little bit to be safe to go in [and operate], \u2019cause it\u2019s very unsafe. If they go to get it now, I could lose speech and a lot of other stuff. So, yeah, it\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve ever said anything about this, by the way. And so I go in every six months. And because I fast and I do intermediate fasting, and right now I\u2019m on a four-day fast. You never feel better than when you\u2019re just drinking juices and stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fafara continued, \u201cI feel like I can look through walls. And I think that has kept it <i>not<\/i>\u00a0growing. So the last time I went in, it was a couple of months ago, and then [the doctor] said, \u2018Hey, look, it\u2019s actually gotten a little, little bit smaller, which we\u2019ve never seen.\u2019 And I said, \u2018Well, part of that is probably prayer, a lot of it.\u2019 And also just eating well and fasting, and I don\u2019t do high carb and I don\u2019t do a ton of sugar, and obviously no alcohol. But that\u2019s what I\u2019ve been dealing with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that the tumor is noncancerous, a silver linking that Fafara was overjoyed to learn, even though his condition prevented him from touring for the better part of two years. \u201cI was, like, \u2018I\u2019m fucking emotional. Hell yeah, I\u2019m emotional. I got a tumor in my head and it\u2019s not cancerous. Cool. We can beat this fucking thing.\u2019 And next thing we know, a lot of doctor\u2019s appointments and shit, and that\u2019s what put me on hold for a year and a half.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The metal veteran went on to say he has a positive outlook, noting, \u201cI\u2019m of the mindset, and this will give you a little power into me here, is that I\u2019m gonna make it go away. I\u2019m personally gonna make it go away with dieting, fasting and positive thought. It\u2019s gonna go away. So the next time I go in is February or March, I think. And it\u2019s gonna shrink more. It\u2019s gonna go away. Period, end of story\u2026 I came back out the second or third time [I got an MRI done] \u2014 I think the third time \u2014 and he\u2019s like, \u2018This is crazy, but this thing is getting a little bit smaller.\u2019 And I\u2019m, like, \u2018Well, have you ever had these go away?\u2019 And he\u2019s, like, \u2018No. And I get rid of a lot of these when I can, when it\u2019s okay to operate.\u2019 And I go, \u2018Well, this thing\u2019s gonna go away.\u2019 And he\u2019s, like, \u2018Uh, okay.\u2019 And I said, \u2018You\u2019ll see. This\u2019ll be a new one for your little medical booklet.\u2019 But if you don\u2019t think that way about life\u2026 And the crazy thing is when I was going through all this, and in the emergency room and everything else is, that\u2019s when I had parted ways with my longtime [DevilDriver] guitar player, and so I still haven\u2019t spoke to him. And I was going through all this at the time too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Garza asked why he felt comfortable revealing his health condition now, Fafara responded, \u201cI wanted to share that with you because I haven\u2019t shared anything. I think people need to know. And obviously this is gonna go out on the wire and people are gonna go, \u2018Fuck, that\u2019s what he\u2019s dealing with.\u2019 But no, I\u2019m not gonna cancel tours. I\u2019m showing up in Australia [this summer]. I\u2019m showing up in August. Nothing\u2019s gonna stop that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fafara said that he was assured the vertigo would not return, explaining, \u201cThe vertigo thing won\u2019t come back. The doctor\u2019s, like, \u2018With this, you only have that once. Your body won\u2019t allow that to happen,\u2019 which is odd, but true\u2026 And that\u2019s another thing \u2014 if I never had the vertigo, I would never find out I had the tumor until it was maybe too late.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DevilDriver just released their 11th album, <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/04\/devildriver-tour-album-single-dig-your-own-grave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Strike and Kill<\/em><\/a>, which arrived on July 10th.
