However, the album also centers around self-love, the singer explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis album is a love story, but love stories are never one-dimensional. They\u2019re always layered,\u201d Cyrus said. \u201cThere is definitely a romantic thread weaving through it because, like all my records, it\u2019s a reflection of where I am in my life. But this one feels especially meaningful because this feeling has stayed with me through multiple eras. That\u2019s something I hadn\u2019t really experienced before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cA peaceful kind of love has become a theme across my last three records. Not just the love I share with someone else, but the love I\u2019ve found for myself. That\u2019s probably been the biggest evolution. Once your relationship with yourself changes, every relationship around you changes too. I think this record celebrates both of those equally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 33-year-old artist added that the songs were made on a \u201cfeeling\u201d with \u201cpeople who aren\u2019t precious about ideas\u201d and \u201cwant to surprise each other and are comfortable throwing an idea away or expanding on it\u201d \u2014 including her fianc\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel closest to something bigger than myself when records flow through me. It\u2019s almost impossible to describe,\u201d Cyrus continued. \u201cIt\u2019s like waking up from a dream you can still feel in your body even though you can\u2019t fully explain it logically. Songwriting feels like crossing over to another side sometimes. A new song can feel like I\u2019ve already heard it before. Even if it isn\u2019t finished yet, I somehow know exactly what it is, almost like I\u2019m remembering it instead of creating it. That\u2019s the mystery I love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cyrus also revealed that she made several decisions that helped her stay focused\u00a0on making the album, including keeping it to 10 songs and coming in with a rough sound and concept. \u201cThat gave me a really strong compass without making the process feel forced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI trusted that the vision would reveal itself instead of trying to control every piece from day one. As each song came into focus, so did the world around it,\u201d she recalled. \u201cVisually, I actually handed some of the creative keys to Alastair McKimm, which is really how this issue came to be. But even before I made the record, I already knew certain things. I knew the color would be red. I knew I\u2019d be in a leather hat. I knew the frame of the imagery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking further, Cyrus said, \u201cCollaboration is a dance. You have to know when to lead and when to follow. I love bringing in people I trust because they\u2019ll take an idea I have and make it possible.
