But even though the airline\u2019s 18 clapping emojis indicated a basic level of sarcasm, many keyboard warriors thought the Fortune 500 company\u2019s \u201cjoke\u201d didn\u2019t fly.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Among the <em>plane<\/em>-spoken responses in the comments section:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI \ud83d\udc4fHAVE \ud83d\udc4fTO \ud83d\udc4fPEE \ud83d\udc4fAND \ud83d\udc4fIM \ud83d\udc4fAFRAID\ud83d\udc4f OF \ud83d\udc4fPLANE \ud83d\udc4fBATHROOMS\ud83d\udc4f\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI \ud83d\udc4fhave\ud83d\udc4f a \ud83d\udc4fconnecting \ud83d\udc4fflight \ud83d\udc4fthat \ud83d\udc4fI \ud83d\udc4fam \ud83d\udc4fgoing\ud83d\udc4fto\ud83d\udc4fbe\ud83d\udc4flate \ud83d\udc4fto\ud83d\udc4f\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe \ud83d\udc4f are \ud83d\udc4f overpriced \ud83d\udc4f and bad \ud83d\udc4f at \ud83d\udc4f what \ud83d\udc4f we \ud83d\udc4f do\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The debate comes as <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/27\/business\/airfares-may-stay-sky-high-even-if-fuel-prices-fall-airline-ceos-warn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">airline fares threaten to spike<\/a> because of rising fuel costs and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/21\/us-news\/american-airlines-flier-bites-fellow-passenger-causing-mid-air-chaos-over-philadelphia-trying-to-fight-everybody\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deranged passenger behavior<\/a> is broadcast on TikTok and Instagram Reels at sky-high levels. Meanwhile, basic economy seats have been shrinking to the size of Rose\u2019s broken door in \u201cTitanic,\u201d making it nearly impossible for the average traveler to comfortably fit on their perch without paying an astronomical upgrade fee.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cDon\u2019t all get up at once, now.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">kadosafia \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Southwest has no official policy against standing when the plane lands, as long as it happens <em>after <\/em>the pilot has announced that it\u2019s safe to do so. But travel experts like Ben Schlappig of the airline news site <a href=\"https:\/\/onemileatatime.com\/about-one-mile-at-a-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One Mile at a Time<\/a> have a more defined take on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can (and should) differentiate between the value in getting up when people several rows before you are deplaning,\u201d he writes. \u201cRather than getting up when the door hasn\u2019t even been opened, and you\u2019re 30 rows from the front of the aircraft.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Fellow aviation nerd Gary Leff of the travel hacking site <a href=\"https:\/\/viewfromthewing.com\/4-reasons-you-should-stand-as-soon-as-your-flight-lands\/\">View From the Wing<\/a> goes even harder: \u201cYou should stand as soon as your plane lands and arrives at the gate,\u201d he insists. \u201cThis helps everyone stretch out a little bit, and move faster off the plane\u2026 It\u2019s the sort of forward-leaning behavior that\u2019s the hallmark of high performers.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Some literal clap-backs for Southwest Airlines. <span class=\"credit\">Threads\/@southwestair<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But not every travel influencer wants to be the stand-up guy (or girl).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I notice passengers making a beeline for the front of the plane instead of politely waiting their turn, I am that person who will stand up in the aisle next to my seat so that everyone deplanes in a timely manner,\u201d says travel writer Tarah Chieffi on <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/travel\/is-it-rude-to-stand-up-when-plane-lands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Points Guy<\/a>. \u201cFor some reason, I have chosen to make it my personal mission to keep the deplaning process fair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Or to put it in parlance that Southwest understands:<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t \ud83d\udc4f block \ud83d\udc4f your \ud83d\udc4f fellow \ud83d\udc4f travelers \ud83d\udc4f just \ud83d\udc4f stand \ud83d\udc4f up \ud83d\udc4f quietly \ud83d\udc4f without \ud83d\udc4f getting \ud83d\udc4f in \ud83d\udc4f anyone\u2019s \ud83d\udc4f way. \ud83d\udc4f <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/@longlivecrystalrose\"\/><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The joke about air travel didn\u2019t land with passengers.
