Rodriguez \/ Getty<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that it has been confirmed that British actor <strong>David Jonsson <\/strong>will step into the role of T\u2019Challa\u2019s son in the upcoming<em><a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4606998\/black-panther-david-jonsson\/\" id=\"4606998\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Black Panther 3 <\/a><\/em>film, more details are emerging about how the <em>Industry<\/em> star landed the coveted role. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, <em>Black Panther<\/em> director Ryan Coogler met with Jonsson in a \u201csecret meeting\u201d before quickly realizing he was the perfect fit to lead the franchise.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe hadn\u2019t started a search yet,\u201d Feige <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.empireonline.com\/movies\/news\/black-panther-3-david-jonsson-cast-six-months-ago-secret-meeting-exclusive\/\">explained during an interview with <em>Empire <\/em><\/a>published July 26. \u201cRyan was working on \u2018Sinners,\u2019 and when Ryan works on a project he\u2019s all in. So the presumption very much was we would sit with him after \u2018Sinners\u2019 came out, after the Academy campaign. We were waiting \u2019til after the Academy Awards to sit with Ryan and begin that process.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-david-jonsson-set-to-play-t-challa-s-son-in-black-panther-3-how-did-it-happen-here-s-what-marvel-boss-kevin-feige-revealed\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>David Jonsson set to play T\u2019Challa\u2019s son in <em>Black Panther 3<\/em>: How did it happen? Here\u2019s what Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Feige said that after the meeting, Coogler knew almost immediately that Jonsson was the right person to carry on the legacy of T\u2019Challa, the iconic hero originally portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman, for <em>Black Panther 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA month and a half or so before that process, he called me and said, \u2018I found him.\u2019 I said, \u2018What do you mean?\u2019 He goes, \u2018I found him. He\u2019s this guy, David Jonsson,&#8217;\u201d Feige continued. \u201cHe mentioned his movies. I had seen some of them. I watched more. He goes, \u2018I\u2019m going to meet him.\u2019 He had a secret meeting with him under cloak of darkness in a hotel somewhere, and called me afterwards and said, \u2018He\u2019s the guy, he\u2019s the guy, I felt it. I felt it in my soul. He\u2019s a good man, and he is the next Black Panther.\u2019 And I got chills, and I got a little welled-up and said, \u2018Let\u2019s do it.\u2019 So we\u2019ve been sitting on this secret for a good five or six months.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"h-winston-duke-said-he-has-complete-trust-in-david-jonsson-to-carry-on-t-challa-s-namesake\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Winston Duke said he has complete \u201ctrust\u201d in David Jonsson to carry on T\u2019Challa\u2019s namesake.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4606998\/black-panther-david-jonsson\/\">previously reported<\/a> on July 25, Coogler officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Jonsson would take on the role of Prince T\u2019Challa II, the son and namesake of Boseman\u2019s beloved hero. Boseman died of colon cancer in 2020, but the franchise will continue to honor his legacy through its returning cast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Letitia Wright and Winston Duke are both set to return for the new chapter, which follows Prince T\u2019Challa II as he comes of age and takes up the Black Panther mantle. Duke recently shared his excitement about Jonsson joining the franchise, telling <em>Variety<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI trust him as an artist. I also trust the people who chose him.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duke continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI trust Ryan [Coogler]. I trust the entire MCU executive team. I think it\u2019s going to be great.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Black Panther<\/em> marked Duke\u2019s feature film debut, and he said he hopes to give Jonsson the same warm welcome he received when he first joined the Marvel family.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHow I was greeted and received into this world \u2013 which was with a lot of grace, being told it\u2019s a safe space to work, to play \u2014 that\u2019s what I wanted to extend to him,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t have any advice. I know what I have to do with him, which is to play with him. I have to trust him. While speaking with <em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em>\u2018s Gerrad Hall at the EW Comic-Con studio, the actress called the news \u201cbeautiful,\u201d saying she was thrilled to see such an opportunity come to \u201ca special person with a good heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe news was really beautiful to hear because I have a personal connection to David,\u201d Wright, who plays T\u2019Challa\u2019s sister, Princess Shuri, explained. \u201cTo see the full circle of that today, I\u2019m still living in it. We\u2019re both still checking in with each other about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wright added:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe now has that mantle to pass on, and [that] guidance and the wisdom.
