When it was time to pay, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/05\/15\/self-checkout-machines-now-ask-customers-to-tip\/\">self-service machine<\/a> asked for a tip.<\/p>\n<p>The diner, who posted the exchange on a popular Facebook group called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/retaildeadoralive\/posts\/1979004896134427\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Retail Dead or Alive<\/a>, revealed, \u201cPopeye\u2019s ordering kiosk <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/06\/us-news\/americans-say-tipping-practices-have-become-ridiculous-as-digital-prompts-push-higher-gratuities\/\">asked me for a tip<\/a> today.\u201d He then added picture proof where the display showed \u201cAdd a tip? A small way to thank the folks behind your crispy, juicy meal.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><button class=\"button button--modal-trigger\" kiosks back in 2024 on an earnings call where CEO of Restaurant Brands International \u2014 parent company of Popeyes \u2014 Josh Kobza revealed nearly 85% of stores will add in the self-service pods by 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Kobza claimed the modernization, much like <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/12\/business\/california-burger-king-franchisee-to-expedite-self-serve-kiosks-rollout\/\">Burger King\u2019s move<\/a>, will cut wait times, reduce order errors and \u201cenhance the employee experience.\u201d But how do customers feel about a machine asking for a tip? Well, look at the Facebook comments.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cDelusional. I\u2019d ask for a manager and tell them to get [rid of] that screen. When he says no, I tell him I won\u2019t be back. If enough people do that, it [goes] away,\u201d one user wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Another wrote, \u201cI have tipping fatigue.\u201d While a third commenter simply put, \u201cInsulting\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not clear when the kiosks started prompting customers for a tip, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@cynthiabeaumont\/video\/7231352361900608814\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TikToks<\/a> from 2023, when some were piloted in select stores, show customers ordering with no tipping selection. The diners would simply add items to their order, click pay and were then given an option of checking out with a cashier or at the machine \u2014 no tipping feature anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>The Post contacted Popeyes for comment but has not heard back.<\/p>\n<p>Popeyes isn\u2019t the only chain with robots begging for tips. As companies add the tech to their stores, customers feel employees are doing less work but still asking for tips. And where is it going?\u201d Ishita Jamar, a senior at American University in Washington, DC, who has noticed more self-serve tip cues, told WSJ.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the tipping tension, July 27 is National Chicken Finger Day and Popeyes decided to hop on the trend and offer up a deal on its popular 11-count chicken finger meal. The fast food giant partnered with DoorDash and Uber Eats to give fans 11 crispy Chicken Tenders, one large side and four of its famous buttery biscuits all for $25.<\/p>\n<p>For those pinching pennies, diners can get the deal in-store for only $20. But be quick, the promo ends today.
