{"id":19063,"date":"2026-07-27T18:05:52","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T13:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=19063"},"modified":"2026-07-27T18:05:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T13:05:52","slug":"thabo-rametsi-unveiled-as-hugh-masekela-in-bill-condons-the-road-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=19063","title":{"rendered":"Thabo Rametsi Unveiled As Hugh Masekela In Bill Condon\u2019s The Road Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSouth African actor, writer, director and producer <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/thabo-rametsi\/\" id=\"auto-tag_thabo-rametsi\" data-tag=\"thabo-rametsi\">Thabo Rametsi<\/a> (<em>Silverton Siege<\/em>) has been unveiled with in his role as activist and music legend <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/hugh-masekela\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hugh-masekela\" data-tag=\"hugh-masekela\">Hugh Masekela<\/a> in Bill Condon\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-road-home\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-road-home\" data-tag=\"the-road-home\">The Road Home<\/a><\/em> as the filming continues in <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/south-africa\/\" id=\"auto-tag_south-africa\" data-tag=\"south-africa\">South Africa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA first look image released by the film\u2019s backers and producers Canal+, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/studiocanal\/\" id=\"auto-tag_studiocanal\" data-tag=\"studiocanal\">Studiocanal<\/a> and Flora Film as well as South African co-producer Blue Ice, shows Rametsi as Masekela, who lived in exile in the UK and the U.S. for 30 years after fleeing his native South Africa in the wake of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre, playing his trumpet. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe film follows Masekela as he finds himself at a crossroads when the Anti-Apartheid Movement, led by anti-apartheid advocate and mentor Archbishop Trevor Huddleston, launches a boycott against his friend Paul Simon over his township music-inspired album \u2018Graceland\u2019, accusing Simon of violating the United Nations\u2019 Cultural Boycott.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMasekela, who saw music as a powerful weapon in the anti-apartheid struggle, would split with Huddleston to join forces with fellow exile and lifelong collaborator, powerhouse vocalist Miriam \u2018Mama Africa\u2019 Makeba to create the Graceland band, a super group designed to bring South Africa\u2019s voice to the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAs previously announced, Rametsi is joined in the cast by Guy Pearce as Huddleston; Johnny Flynn as Simon and Cynthia Erivo as Makeba.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWhen you tell the story of Giants you must shout it from the highest mountain. These are our giants and this film is the highest mountain we could find.
