{"id":1857,"date":"2026-07-08T19:53:30","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T14:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=1857"},"modified":"2026-07-08T19:53:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T14:53:30","slug":"andrij-parekh-to-direct-upcoming-netflix-series-the-retrievals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=1857","title":{"rendered":"Andrij Parekh To Direct Upcoming Netflix Series &#8216;The Retrievals&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/andrij-parekh\/\" id=\"auto-tag_andrij-parekh\" data-tag=\"andrij-parekh\">Andrij Parekh<\/a>, the Emmy-winning director from HBO\u2019s hit series\u00a0<em>Succession<\/em>, is set to direct two episodes of Netfix\u2019s upcoming limited series\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-retrievals\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-retrievals\" data-tag=\"the-retrievals\">The Retrievals<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSpeaking at this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/karlovy-vary\/\" id=\"auto-tag_karlovy-vary\" data-tag=\"karlovy-vary\">Karlovy Vary<\/a> Film Festival, Parekh, who is also a prolific cinematographer with credits including\u00a0<em>Half Nelson<\/em>\u00a0and <em>Blue Valentine<\/em>, told an audience at the festival\u2019s Industry Days strand that he is shooting the first episode of the drama as a DoP and is directing two further episodes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<em>The Retrievals\u00a0<\/em>hails from\u00a0<em>Maid\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Sirens\u00a0<\/em>writer-EP-showrunner Molly Smith Metzler and is an adaptation of the Peabody Award-winning podcast of the same name from Susan Burton from Serial Productions and The New York Times. It follows one woman\u2019s crusade against Yale Fertility Center after she (and almost 100 other women) were operated on without anesthesia during IVF egg retrieval procedures \u2013 because a nurse stole their fentanyl. It\u2019s described that a powerful and surprisingly funny story about an unlikely community that dares to take on one of the largest institutions in the nation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMetzler executive produces alongside Margo Robbie and Tom Ackerley\u2019s LuckyChap. Parekh said the series is looking to shoot in September.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tParekh was joined on stage with\u00a0<em>Bad Sisters\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Catastrophe\u00a0<\/em>writer-producer-actor <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sharon-horgan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sharon-horgan\" data-tag=\"sharon-horgan\">Sharon Horgan<\/a> where the two sat down for a wide-ranging discussion about how streamers have changed the creative process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLast year Horgan\u2019s production outfit Merman signed a two-year first-look deal with HBO, ending her first-look deal with Apple TV, which led to the creation of hit series\u00a0<em>Bad Sisters<\/em>. Parekh, meanwhile, has a long history with HBO, thanks to his work on\u00a0<em>Succession\u00a0<\/em>and having also directed episodes of the company\u2019s hit show\u00a0<em>House of Dragon<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhen pressed about their thoughts about Paramount\u2019s $110B merger with HBO\u2019s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, Horgan said: \u201cI\u2019m hopeful that nothing changes with HBO because it would be kind of crazy. It\u2019s such an iconic brand and it\u2019s sort of the ultimate premium streamer. I don\u2019t know why you would want to interfere with that. If I said what I wanted to say it would get me into trouble.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tParekh, meanwhile, added: \u201cI just hope they have the wisdom to leave it alone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHorgan spoke about the decision to move her company\u2019s first-look from Apple to HBO, stressing that Merman \u201cmakes shows where we work with everyone\u201d and admitted that she wouldn\u2019t rule out another\u00a0<em>Bad Sisters\u00a0<\/em>season down the line.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cFor me, I just try and take risks,\u201d she said. \u201cI had such an incredible experience with\u00a0<em>Bad Sisters<\/em>, it was life changing for me and my company as well. It was a wonderful experience and one that I\u2019d love to do again at some point in the future.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHorgan said she had her first meeting with Amy Gravitt, who is now EVP of HBO &amp; Max Comedy Programming, 20 years ago after her first project\u00a0<em>Pulling<\/em>. \u201cWe met at a caf\u00e9 in London and it was like, \u2018What can we do together?\u2019 And twenty years later it finally happened. I just love the idea of working with Amy and getting to do something very different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHorgan\u2019s first project under the deal is upcoming series\u00a0<em>Youth<\/em>, which she writes and stars in.
