They\u2019re cuckoo. As far as I\u2019m concerned, it\u2019s over,\u201d he said, referring to the ceasefire agreement outlined in the Islamabad memorandum of understanding signed last month. \u201cSo, I don\u2019t like them at all. And, frankly, I think we waste a lot of time with them. I think we should just do our business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump stopped short of saying he would halt all negotiations with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran<\/a>, saying he would speak to his diplomatic team first. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran<\/a> are in the middle of a 60-day window, outlined in the memorandum, reserved for direct technical talks over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran\u2019s<\/a> nuclear program and possible sanctions relief.<\/p>\n<p>Further direct negotiations had also been on hold for a week while the Iranian government held a funeral for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the opening hours of the U.S.-Israeli war on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, future discussions between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> and Iranian teams seem increasingly unlikely after this week\u2019s attacks.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p>    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/jul\/7\/us-iran-peace-faces-new-challenges-3-tankers-attacked-hormuz\/\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>    SEE ALSO: U.S. launches new strikes on Iran following attacks on tankers in Strait of Hormuz<\/p>\n<p>  <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr style=\"margin-bottom: 15px;\"\/>\n<p>On Tuesday, maritime authorities reported that three commercial tanker ships were attacked by unidentified objects while moving through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital and contested waterway that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran<\/a> has intermittently closed since February to pressure international shipping.<\/p>\n<aside>\n<\/aside>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran<\/a> did not directly claim responsibility, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> and several Gulf nations quickly leveled blame at Tehran, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> Central Command launched a series of retaliatory attacks late Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The strikes reportedly targeted more than 80 locations across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran<\/a>, mostly focused on air defenses, coastal radar sites and command and control networks on the country\u2019s southern coastline. Centcom said the goal of the attacks was to degrade <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran\u2019s<\/a> ability to interfere with international commerce in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>Casualties from the strikes have not yet been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The Tuesday attacks are much more extensive than those launched by CENTCOM last month in response ot a similar attack on a commercial ship traveling through the strait. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> military made it explicit that those attacks were purely proportional and did not seek to restart the war.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran<\/a> on Wednesday launched retaliatory strikes against at least 85 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> military installations across Bahrain and Kuwait. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran\u2019s<\/a> Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also said in a statement that its forces shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p>      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/jul\/7\/bahrain-kuwait-face-incoming-missiles-us-strikes-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>      SEE ALSO: Bahrain and Kuwait face incoming missiles after U.S. strikes on Iran<\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr style=\"margin-bottom: 15px;\"\/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran\u2019s<\/a> Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters wrote in a statement that \u201cthe origin of any support for the aggressor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> military\u201d would be a legitimate target of the Iranian armed forces, implying that Gulf nations could expect further strikes if they host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> military installations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran\u2019s<\/a> foreign ministry on Wednesday said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> strikes came after a series of flagrant violations of the terms laid out in the memorandum. Specifically, it said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a> made the agreement invalid after it revoked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran\u2019s<\/a> ability to sell oil, interfered with Iranian operations in the Strait of Hormuz and failed to stop Israeli attacks in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/iran\/\">Iran\u2019s<\/a> parliamentary speaker and chief negotiator with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/us\/\">U.S.<\/a>, kept a defiant attitude after the strikes, insisting that Washington had broken the agreement first.<\/p>\n<p>                        <a name=\"pagebreak\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe era of bullying and extortion is over.
