That\u2019s a decline of just 30 percent, an extremely good hold for a blockbuster. In terms of holds, that\u2019s the third best ever for a film that opened to more than $100 million, behind only <em>Wicked<\/em> and <em>Top Gun: Maverick<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt\u2019s $87 million sum is the second best weekend two ever for an R-rated film, behind <em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em>\u2018s $97 million two years ago. It\u2019s domestic total will end the weekend at an estimated $286.4 million, while it\u2019s global total should hit $639.9 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe news was good for Disney this weekend as well, with holdover <em>Toy Story 5<\/em> passed $1 billion, to now rank as the No. 6 Pixar release of all time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNo new wide release braved the waters this weekend, with studios preferring to stay out of the wake of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/universal-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_universal-2_1\" data-tag=\"universal-2\">Universal<\/a> and Nolan, the undisputed name-brand filmmaker working today. Next weekend, juggernaut <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em>, starring <em>The Odyssey <\/em>castmembers and <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/tom-holland-zendaya-blockbuster-honeymoon-1236653698\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/tom-holland-zendaya-blockbuster-honeymoon-1236653698\/\">married couple Tom Holland and Zendaya<\/a>, arrives from Sony and Marvel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn a summer in which the Gen Z <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/curry-barker-obsession-interview-1236620580\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/curry-barker-obsession-interview-1236620580\/\">filmmakers behind <em>Obsession<\/em><\/a> and <em>Backrooms<\/em> have become the breakout story, Nolan is an establishment player who has managed to capture the <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/steven-spielberg-movies-compared-gen-z-youtube-filmmakers-1236624590\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/steven-spielberg-movies-compared-gen-z-youtube-filmmakers-1236624590\/\">attention of younger audiences<\/a>. Half the opening weekend\u2019s audience was between the ages of 18 and 34. The film has amassed $322 million globally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe film has also been massive on Imax and other premium format screens, with Imax accounting for 23 percent of its haul on opening weekend. It is the first narrative feature shot entirely on Imax cameras. This weekend, it brought in $48 million globally on IMAX screens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe film also delves into horror with several sequences, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/christopher-nolan-on-the-odyssey-horror-dog-1236652434\/\">Nolan telling <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> the movie \u201cvery much whets my appetite for more\u201d of the genre. The filmmaker, who has praised both <em>Obsession<\/em> and <em>Backrooms<\/em>, went on to say: \u201cYou have to have an amazing idea. When you go see a film like\u00a0<em>Obsession<\/em>, that\u2019s an amazing idea.
