Key art featuring a nod to the infamous bloody prom was also shared.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKing\u2019s <em>Carrie<\/em> was published in 1974, spent 14 weeks on\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0bestseller list and has been translated into more than 35 languages. Brian De Palma\u2019s 1976 film adaptation of\u00a0<em>Carrie<\/em>, which starred Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, earned Academy Award nominations for Spacek and Laurie. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe upcoming reimagining from Flanagan marks the first time the story has been adapted for television.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/prime-video-carrie-series-first-look-mike-flanagan-1236646525\/\">Summer Howell stars <\/a>as the series\u2019 title character Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe show synopsis reads: \u201cMisfit high\u2011schooler Carrie White (Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Sloyan). After her father\u2019s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social\u2011media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSiena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Tota, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard also star.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn addition to being the showrunner, Flanagan also writes and exec produces the series. He also directs four episodes.
