Of course, that\u2019s largely because that\u2019s when Green learned the film had been shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery as a tax write off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cFor three years, I was lucky enough to make a movie about Wile E. Coyote, the most persistent, passionate, and resilient character of all time,\u201d Green posted on X at the time after receiving the \u201cdevastating\u201d news. \u201cBut in the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, resilience and persistence win the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnd win the day they did. Ketchup Entertainment ultimately rescued the film and set it for theatrical release on Aug. 28. \u201cCoyote vs. Acme\u201d \u2014 an animated\/live-action hybrid about Wile E. Coyote taking on the Acme Corporation for intentionally releasing defective products \u2014 will get its first public screening on Saturday night at Comic-Con.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve waited so long to see their reaction. I feel like the years, to me, have [all led] up to tonight,\u201d said Lana Condor, who stars in the film alongside Will Forte, John Cena and a bunch of Looney Tunes like Roadrunner, Tweety and Bugs Bunny. \u201cI want so badly for them to love it, and I think they will. I\u2019m so confident in that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe most enduring image of the campaign to save \u201cCoyote vs. Acme\u201d was a lone protester dressed as Wile E. Coyote, holding a picket sign that read \u201cRelease Me\u201d outside Warner Bros. Studios in the pouring rain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe did a call to action, \u2018Where are you? Reveal yourselves, we would love to invite you!&#8217;\u201d Condor said. But Green confirmed the lone wolf never stepped forward. Still, the anonymous whistleblower\u2019s legacy lives on as the \u201cCoyote vs. Acme\u201d team built one of his masks for last year\u2019s Comic-Con panel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe figured out how his costume was built, and it was made out of paper!\u201d Green said excitedly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cCoyote vs. Acme\u201d is heading to theaters while Warner Bros. is enduring yet another change of direction \u2014 this time, the impending merger with Paramount Skydance, which has many people in the industry on edge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut while the wider implications of the Warner-Paramount merger remain to be seen (especially after the <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/news\/paramount-warner-bros-merger-postpone-antitrust-trial-1236820601\/\">merger\u2019s delay<\/a>), for tonight, the entire \u201cCoyote vs. Acme\u201d cast and crew have much to celebrate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSo many people stood up for a film they didn\u2019t even see \u2026 which is exactly Wile\u2019s entire journey throughout our entire film!\u201d Condor said. \u201cThe reason that it\u2019s going to come out at all, I firmly believe, is because of the fans. That was really incredible to experience. That\u2019s why tonight, we\u2019re so excited to screen it for the first time because this is what you fought for. I\u2019m so confident that the fight was for a good reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe film\u2019s script was penned by \u201cMay December\u201d scribe Samy Burch from a story by James Gunn and Jeremy Slater.
