But, boy, did they.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn a first for Hall H, the studio surprised the 7,000-strong crowd by revealing a hidden stage in the back of the cavernous room, with castmembers from <em>Thunderbolts* <\/em>and the 2000s <em>X-Men<\/em> movies appearing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAfter giving brief speeches, the actors made their way from the back, through the entire hall, high-fiving fans along the way and the crowd screaming like it was a Beatles or BTS concert. They joined the main stage already populated by Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, and the star attraction, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/robert-downey-jr\/\" id=\"auto-tag_robert-downey-jr_1\" data-tag=\"robert-downey-jr\">Robert Downey Jr.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt was just one part of supersized panel, that included the startling revelations that <em>Alien: Romulus<\/em> breakout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/david-jonsson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_david-jonsson_1\" data-tag=\"david-jonsson\">David Jonsson<\/a> would play the son of T\u2019Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman) in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/black-panther-3-marvel-ryan-coogler-comic-con-1236656570\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Black Panther 3<\/a><\/em> for a Dec. 15, 2028 release. He will take the mantle of the Black Panther.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnother bombshell: not only would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/ryan-gosling-ghost-rider-for-marvel-studios-1236656560\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ryan Gosling play Ghost Rider<\/a> in a new movie, but <em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em> and Gosling\u2019s <em>Star Wars: Starfighter<\/em> director Shawn Levy would direct for a 2028 release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tEven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ryan-reynolds\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ryan-reynolds_1\" data-tag=\"ryan-reynolds\">Ryan Reynolds<\/a>, who had not attended Apple TV\u2019s presentation of his upcoming action comedy <em>Mayday<\/em> earlier in the day, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/ryan-reynolds-deadpool-avengers-doomsday-comic-con-1236656648\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crashed<\/a> the proceedings \u2014 in costume as a cosplayer named Ricky, but really as Deadpool. He pointedly asked if production had begun. (Apparently he wasn\u2019t invited.) Downey was having none of it, jokingly seeming annoyed with the Merc with the Mouth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s in the can, bro. Look around you. Did you bump your head?\u201d Downey told Deadpool, who then asked about possible additional photography to add new people to the mix. The crowd \u201cawwed\u201d in sadness. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Marvel\u2019s Hall H: A cosplayer named Ricky\u2026really Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool\u2026asks if <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/Doomsday?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">#Doomsday<\/a> has already started production and if it\u2019s possible the movie will still add new people. Robert Downey Jr pointedly tells him, \u201cIt\u2019s in the can, bro. On Monday, it released the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/avengers-doomsday-trailer-robert-downey-jr-doctor-doom-mcu-1236611483\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trailer for <em>Doomsday<\/em><\/a>, and while it racked up record views showing a lot of interest, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/avengers-doomsday-ed-harris-tv-academy-controversy-1236655182\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reaction was not enthusiastic<\/a>. And with a checkered slate since 2019\u2019s mega-event <em>Avengers: Endgame,<\/em> the company needed to show that <em>Doomsday<\/em> isn\u2019t a grasp at past glories. And while not indicative of future quality, Saturday\u2019s panel demolished any negativity from days prior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn addition to the big news drops and the sheer force of actors, it was a massive spectacle with light shows and pop music. And, oh yes, costumes. Each attendee received a Doom mask and cape that they donned when asked by Downey, who in his Doom accent, asked the assembled legion to join his cause. Marvel, with this panel, continued to up the ante. The crowd was continually on its feet; every time it would sit down, some reveal would jolt them back up, to see, to yell, to record on their phones.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd in a bit of a redo, Marvel showed a Hall H-only reel that it called an extended look but was, to many fans, what the initial trailer should have been: something that clearly delineated the stakes and the threat. \u201cVictor, did you do this?!\u201d yells Pascal\u2019s Richards to Doom. Doom says, \u201cAll of you have lived stolen lives\u201d at one point and raises an army of giant mutant-killing robots known as Sentinels out of the ground. He tosses Thor aside like a doll. And begins with Susan Storm (aka The Invisible Woman) explaining Doom\u2019s motivation, saying \u201cEverything he loved was taken from him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAhead of the panel, the feeling in the room was electric. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people camped overnight for a chance at Comic-Con\u2019s hottest ticket. Marvel gave away Doctor Doom masks and capes, while the Fantastic Four robot H.E.R.B.I.E. was onstage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd it began with a sizzle reel of Marvel\u2019s greatest hits \u2014 not just of Marvel Studios, but of films made before <em>Iron Man <\/em>kicked off the MCU in 2008. There was footage of Tobey Maguire\u2019s Spider-Man and Patrick Stewart\u2019s Prof. X. Feige, with the help of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/jon-bernthal-the-odyssey-spider-man-marvel-1236648432\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jon Bernthal<\/a>, also showed an action sequence from <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em>, which opens next week and for which little has been shown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMarvel boss Kevin Feige, a confident and loose speaker, began his talk by giving due to the source of all things at Marvel Studios, the comics. He referred to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/marvel-comics-new-york-la-1236650120\/\">change<\/a> in leadership at the publishing division, thanking outgoing editor-in-chief C.B.
