Technology Group\u2019s $3.8 billion defamation lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tag\/the-washington-post\/\">against <em>The Washington Post<\/em><\/a>, ruling the company failed to meet the demanding legal standard required to take the case to trial.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling marks the latest setback in a string of legal battles brought by President <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> and his media company against major news organizations over their reporting.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/zacheverson\/2023\/05\/23\/trumps-social-media-business-sues-washington-post-seeking-38-billion-in-damages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filed<\/a> in 2023, targeted a <em>Post<\/em> article titled, \u201cTrust linked to porn-friendly bank could gain a stake in Trump\u2019s Truth Social.\u201d Trump Media alleged the report was part of a \u201cconspiracy\u201d to damage the company.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Court Judge <strong>Thomas Barber<\/strong> granted judgment in favor of <em>The Post<\/em>, finding Trump Media \u201cfailed to present evidence that would allow a jury to find by clear and convincing evidence\u201d that the newspaper \u201cpublished the allegedly defamatory statements with actual malice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for <em>The Post<\/em> argued Trump Media could not satisfy that burden, telling the court its reporter, <strong>Drew Harwell<\/strong>, had \u201cthoroughly investigated\u201d the story and \u201chad confidence in the article\u2019s accuracy at the time of publication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to CNN, the newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/07\/07\/media\/trump-media-washington-post-defamation-lawsuit-dismissed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reacted<\/a>: \u201cWe are pleased with the court\u2019s decision and look forward to reviewing its written order upon release.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the case was pending, <em>The Post<\/em> published a correction in May, acknowledging that \u201cdiscovery in the ongoing litigation has established\u201d two assertions in the original article were incorrect.
