commitment and enthusiasm\u201d over the years.<\/p>\n<p>The tribute said: \u201cIt\u2019s with unbelievable sadness that we announce to our worldwide hardcore <a We have lost a beloved friend and an iconic frontman. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLou had the power to raise everyone\u2019s spirits at our shows with a smile and a sarcastic comment, and he won people over wherever we played, from every culture and every corner of the world.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2024, Lou shared with fans that doctors had found a tumour in his esophagus that went into his stomach.<\/p>\n<p>The band eventually paused their European tour as the singer underwent treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Fans and fellow musicians rallied around him, raising money for medical expenses through a benefit concert at Irving Plaza in Manhattan later that year.<\/p>\n<p>A year later, he said he had completed his final round of chemotherapy and had been declared cancer-free. <\/p>\n<div class=\"rail-container rail-container--full-width rail-container--white\">\n<div class=\"rail rail--classic article theme-entertainment\">\n<p><h3 class=\"rail__title\">Most read in Entertainment<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16745041\" class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-caption alignnone aligncenter\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span>Lou at the Knitting Factory in New York City<\/span> <span class=\"credit\">Credit: Getty<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16745040\" class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-caption alignnone aligncenter\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span>Lou was one of the founding members<\/span> <span class=\"credit\">Credit: Getty<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Months later, he revealed the cancer had returned.<\/p>\n<p>In a video message on the Sick of It All social media, Lou told fans that he was \u201cback to square one\u201d and that he had to restart treatments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo bad news is the cancer has returned,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll try to keep you updated as much as possible. Thank you for your love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the tribute, band members thanked acknowledge \u201cthe great help and support offered by everyone\u201d who donated to Lou\u2019s medical fund. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou all helped Lou feel very special and very loved as he battled away these last two years,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis battle is over now and he can finally rest. Hopefully he can somehow still see and feel the beautiful, positive mark he left on the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lou was born in Queens, New York and later formed the hardcore punk band Sick Of It All with his brother Pete when they were still in high school.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0band\u2019s first show took place in May 1986 in Long Island at Right Track Inn.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The siblings have been hailed as some of the most influential figures in New York City hardcore.<\/p>\n<p>Tributes poured in from fans and fellow musicians following the Friday announcement.<\/p>\n<p>WWE wrestler CM Punk posted: \u201cLove you Lou and SOIA. Thank you for the soundtrack for my life.
