Watch below.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/green-day\">Green Day<\/a> frontman performed the tracks at two recent shows with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/green-day-side-project-the-coverups-announce-intimate-london-show-buy-tickets-3591433\">The Coverups<\/a>. Formed in 2018, the covers band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/green-day-frontman-billie-joe-armstrongs-covers-band-the-coverups-announce-another-intimate-london-gig-3822710\">played an intimate show in London early last year<\/a>. They\u2019d previously been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/courtney-love-joins-billie-joe-armstrong-on-stage-for-intimate-covers-band-london-show-3593816\">joined on stage in the capital by Courtney Love<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong is joined in the group by Green Day touring member Jason White, their audio engineer Chris Dugan, and tour manager Bill Schneider (also of Pinhead Gunpowder).<\/p>\n<p>On Monday (July 20), The Coverups took to the stage at The Roxy in West Hollywood, California, where they treated the crowd to a stacked set of rock \u2018n\u2019 roll classics. At one point in the gig, they delivered a rendition of \u2018Drain You\u2019 from Nirvana\u2019s seminal 1991 album \u2018Nevermind\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Coverups &quot;Drain You&quot; - dedicated to Jennifer Finch, The Roxy, West Hollywood, CA 7.20.26\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YH2aRa1-Fys?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis song goes out to Jennifer Finch from L7,\u201d Armstrong told the crowd to introduce the faithful cover. His tribute followed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/jennifer-finch-l7-bassist-and-pioneering-figure-in-la-punk-scene-dies-at-59-3957772\">the death of Finch, aged 59, two days prior on July 18<\/a>. The bassist and pioneering figure in LA\u2019s punk scene had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/l7-bassist-jennifer-finch-diagnosed-with-aggressive-brain-cancer-3956818\">diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At their next show, held at San Diego\u2019s Hard Rock Hotel last night (Thursday July 23), The Coverups brought out Iron Maiden frontman Dickinson to lend vocals to a Bowie classic. In 2018,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/green-day-coverups-covers-nirvana-bowie-damned-guns-n-roses-video-setlist-2425880\">they invited Guns N\u2019 Roses bassist Duff McKagan to perform with them<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/green-day-garbage-pearl-jam-lead-artists-and-fans-in-donating-300000-to-l7-bassist-jennifer-finchs-brain-cancer-battle-3957211\">Adrienne Armstrong, the wife of Billie Joe, had donated to a fundraiser to help\u00a0with the high expenses of Jennifer Finch\u2019s treatments and care<\/a> \u2013 with $300,000 being raised in less than three days last week. They\u2019ll perform at a 50th anniversary Ramones concert in LA next month.<\/p>\n<p>Green Day recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/green-day-announce-massive-nimrods-soundtrack-with-fan-favourites-and-new-live-recordings-3955606\">announced the soundtrack to their upcoming coming-of-age film\u00a0<i>Nimrods\u00a0<\/i>and shared a new track, \u2018I\u2019m Never\u00a0Gonna\u00a0R.I.P.\u2019<\/a>.
