It will run until September 6, and you can find out more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redhouseoriginals.com\/exhibitions\/the-kinks-brothers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition sees Ray and Dave collaborate with British portrait painter\u00a0Christian Furr, who has reimagined a 1968 passport photobooth picture of the brothers taken in East Finchley, North London, in a series of\u00a0mixed-media\u00a0works on paper and canvas.<\/p>\n<p>Dave cried when he first saw Furr\u2019s paintings, with the images prompting him to consider his fractured relationship with his brother. \u201cIt made me think, \u2018What the hell are we doing?\u2019\u201d\u00a0he\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were times\u00a0where\u00a0I\u00a0couldn\u2019t\u00a0stand him. We were getting on great. We have fluctuated between getting on\u00a0really well\u00a0and not getting on at all over the years but\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0always been telepathy, since childhood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether they could perform together again, Dave replied: \u201cI don\u2019t know, but never say never.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ray and Dave last shared a stage in 2015, when Ray joined his brother in London for a performance of \u2018You Really Got Me\u2019, and\u00a0they\u00a0later\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/ray-davies-dave-davies-recording-new-kinks-music-together-2530153\">worked together on new Kinks material in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/features\/music-interviews\/the-kinks-reunion-ray-davies-dave-davies-3537742\">The brothers discussed the prospect of a reunion in a 2023 interview with\u00a0<i>NME<\/i><\/a>, when Ray revealed that they had enough partially completed material for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-kinks-have-enough-material-for-about-20-new-songs-says-ray-davies-3538630\">\u201cabout 20\u201d new Kinks songs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbISvhijrSr\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Speaking about the demos, some of which date back to the \u201990s and feature contributions from Dave and longtime drummer Mick Avory, Ray said: \u201cWe\u2019ve got loads of songs there in pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThere are about two or three songs I want to finish, and when they\u2019re finished, I\u2019ll put the whole thing together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Ray said a full reunion remained \u201cin the lap of the gods\u201d and would depend on \u201cgetting a show that gives us the credit we deserve\u201d.\u00a0He added that he would have to \u201cpersuade [Dave] to come on\u201d,\u00a0while warning: \u201cYou\u2019ve\u00a0gotta\u00a0be careful because he\u2019ll run off in one direction and I\u2019ll [run] in mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dave told\u00a0<i>NME<\/i> that their disagreements ultimately stemmed from their contrasting personalities. \u201cWe\u2019re just different animals,\u201d he said. \u201cWe found ourselves at a very young age being in each other\u2019s faces. I am highly insulted that MOBY would accuse my brother of being \u2018unevolved\u2019 or transphobic in any way. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hBFmLPdMKH\">https:\/\/t.co\/hBFmLPdMKH<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qYcxoMc03d\">pic.twitter.com\/qYcxoMc03d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dave Davies (@davedavieskinks) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/davedavieskinks\/status\/2035793652228772037?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>More recently, the brothers presented a united front in March when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-kinks-ray-davies-asked-who-the-fuck-is-moby-after-he-said-lola-was-gross-and-transphobic-3937014\">Moby\u00a0described the lyrics to the Kinks\u2019 1970 single \u2018Lola\u2019 as \u201cgross and transphobic\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Lola\u2019 by the Kinks came up on a\u00a0Spotify\u00a0playlist, and I thought the lyrics were gross and transphobic,\u201d\u00a0the electronic musician\u00a0said. \u201cI like their early music, but I was really taken aback at how unevolved the lyrics are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dave\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-kinks-dave-davies-hits-back-at-moby-for-saying-lola-is-gross-and-transphobic-3936073\">responded that he was \u201chighly insulted\u201d<\/a>\u00a0by Moby\u2019s description of his brother, adding: \u201cWhy is\u00a0Moby being\u00a0so rude about this simple song?\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0not transphobic.
