Garrix\u2019s touches add a propulsive element to U2, giving the band an unexpected modern pop swing at a summertime hit with familiar elements for the Irish quartet such as The Edge\u2019s triumphant riffing and Bono\u2019s anthemic lyrics. \u201cYou and I are Fireflies\/ Born for the summer skies\/ The light that\u2019s in each others\u2019 eyes\/ Fireflies,\u201d he sings.<\/p>\n<p>Martin busted out the song for its premier during a performance a Tomorrowland festival on July 17th with an appearance from The Edge on guitar that <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/artist\/martin-garrix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was posted on social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration is the first time all four members of the U2 have worked directly with Garrix, but it\u2019s not the first time members of the band have come together with the Dutch DJ. Martin produced the song \u201cScars\u201d from U2\u2019s April EP <em>Easter Lily<\/em>. In 2019, Martin also worked with Bono and The Edge on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kGT73GcwhCU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">We Are The People,<\/a>\u201d the theme for the UEFA European Football Championship.<\/p>\n<p>U2 are gearing up for a new album, set to arrive later this year. The band released <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/07\/u2-release-single-streets-of-dreams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the lead single, \u201cStreet of Dreams,\u201d<\/a> in early July. That single followed U2\u2019s release of two EPs this year, February\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/02\/u2-days-of-ash-stream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Days of Ash<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and April\u2019s\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/04\/u2-release-surprise-new-ep-easter-lily-stream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Easter Lily<\/a><\/em>.
