{"id":15440,"date":"2026-07-24T06:41:44","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T01:41:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=15440"},"modified":"2026-07-24T06:41:44","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T01:41:44","slug":"zach-cregger-on-crazy-weapons-prequel-movie-about-gladys-origin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=15440","title":{"rendered":"Zach Cregger on &#8216;Crazy&#8217; &#8216;Weapons&#8217; Prequel Movie About Gladys&#8217; Origin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div xmlns:default=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/zach-cregger\/\" id=\"auto-tag_zach-cregger_1\" data-tag=\"zach-cregger\">Zach Cregger<\/a> is ready to work his magic with the prequel to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/weapons\/\" id=\"auto-tag_weapons_1\" data-tag=\"weapons\">Weapons<\/a><\/em> that will focus on breakout character Gladys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDuring <em>Collider\u2019<\/em>s Directors on Directing panel at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/comic-con-2026-hall-h-preview-1236653276\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">San Diego Comic-Con<\/a> on Thursday, the filmmaker shared a status update on the planned feature follow-up to his 2025 horror hit that won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/amy-madigan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_amy-madigan_1\" data-tag=\"amy-madigan\">Amy Madigan<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/amy-madigan-wins-oscar-best-supporting-actress-weapons-1236531118\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">best supporting actress Oscar<\/a> for her role as Aunt Gladys. <em>The Hollywood Reporter <\/em>previously reported that Cregger and Zach Shields are <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/weapons-prequel-zach-cregger-gladys-zach-shields-1236553864\/\">penning the script for the project<\/a> that is in development at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/line-cinema\/\" id=\"auto-tag_line-cinema_1\" data-tag=\"line-cinema\">New Line Cinema<\/a> with the working title <em>Gladys<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cFirst of all, I\u2019m really excited about the <em>Gladys<\/em> movie, and I loved working with Amy,\u201d Cregger told the crowd. \u201cI loved that character. For the movie <em>Weapons<\/em>, it really made a lot of sense not to dive into her backstory because the device of <em>Weapons<\/em> was to keep her very mysterious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe added, \u201cHowever, there\u2019s an amazing story to be told about where Gladys comes from and how she became what we know her as. It\u2019s got a lot of twists and turns and mysteries and crazy things, like <em>Weapons <\/em>does. I think it\u2019s going to be great. The script is in progress now, but we\u2019re taking that super seriously, and it\u2019s moving in the right direction. So yeah, it\u2019s being written, is the short answer.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCentering on a group of children who go missing in the middle of the night, <em>Weapons<\/em> hit theaters last August from Warner Bros. and collected $270 million at the global box office. In addition to Madigan, the cast included Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams and Benedict Wong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAt Thursday\u2019s panel, Cregger screened the latest trailer and additional exclusive footage from his forthcoming video game adaptation <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/resident-evil\/\" id=\"auto-tag_resident-evil_1\" data-tag=\"resident-evil\">Resident Evil<\/a><\/em>, which Sony releases in September.
