We\u2019re about to find out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/07\/atari-universal-deal-10-game-ip-script-matt-reilly-carl-hampe-entertainment-360-1237001656\/\">Deadline<\/a>\u00a0reports that Unviersal has signed a deal that gives them \u201cthe right to develop 10 classic Atari video game properties for the big screen.\u201d They have also bought a project based on Atari IP, based on a screenplay by\u00a0Matt Reilly\u00a0and\u00a0Carl Hampe.<\/p>\n<p>The 10 Atari movies that are included in the pact:\u00a0<em>Asteroids, Adventure, Berzerk, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Missile Command, Pong<\/em>\u00a0and the immortal classic\u00a0<em>Yars\u2019 Revenge.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/screencrush.com\/nostalgic-movie-tv-real-world-locations\/\">Iconic Movie and TV Locations You Dreamed About Visiting As a Kid<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Deadline claims the films are intended as \u201cbig-scale action-adventure fare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I am most certainly an Old\u2122, but I\u2019m only familiar with about half the titles that\u00a0Universal just\u00a0grabbed. (<em>Crystal Castles\u00a0<\/em>rings exactly zero bells with me. I looked it up on Wikipedia, too; still nothing.) So I\u2019d be pretty surprised if all of these games do get movies. But after the successes of\u00a0<em>The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>A Minecraft Movie<\/em>, the studios are hungry for similar properties with similar potential.<\/p>\n<p>I guess I can see <em>Asteroids<\/em> becoming something like that, but man, some of these Atari movies were so small in scale, they are going to require\u00a0<em>a lot\u00a0<\/em>of imagination. (<em>Pong: The Movie &#8230;\u00a0<\/em>wild to even ponder.) The Atari 2600 was hamstrung by late 1970s technology; the\u00a0graphics were blocky and static and most took place entirely on a single screen.
