{"id":1491,"date":"2026-07-08T06:05:30","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T01:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=1491"},"modified":"2026-07-08T06:05:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T01:05:30","slug":"uwe-boll-rips-citizen-vigilante-critics-and-defends-armie-hammer-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=1491","title":{"rendered":"Uwe Boll Rips Citizen Vigilante Critics and Defends Armie Hammer Movie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div xmlns:default=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polarizing filmmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/uwe-boll\/\" id=\"auto-tag_uwe-boll_1\" data-tag=\"uwe-boll\">Uwe Boll<\/a> offered to field questions from fans, and it\u2019s safe to say that things did not go as planned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known for such B-movie staples as <em>Alone in the Dark<\/em> and <em>BloodRayne<\/em>, Boll took part in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/reddit\/\" id=\"auto-tag_reddit_1\" data-tag=\"reddit\">Reddit<\/a> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/movies\/comments\/1umfa10\/hi_reddit_i_am_uwe_boll_ama\/\">AMA<\/a> on Friday to promote his film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/citizen-vigilante\/\" id=\"auto-tag_citizen-vigilante_1\" data-tag=\"citizen-vigilante\">Citizen Vigilante<\/a><\/em>, which stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/armie-hammer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_armie-hammer_1\" data-tag=\"armie-hammer\">Armie Hammer<\/a>. Critics have predictably trashed the movie, as generally is the case with Boll\u2019s oeuvre, with <em>Citizen Vigilante<\/em> holding a six percent approval rating from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes, although it has a 93 percent score from audiences. <em>Citizen Vigilante<\/em> centers on Hammer\u2019s character as he seeks to punish criminals, most of whom are depicted as migrants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proceedings got off to an inauspicious start, as the first question asked Boll why he still makes new films \u201cafter already making some of the worst movies ever.\u201d The German director replied tersely, \u201cTo top them all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This conversation didn\u2019t get any more civilized from there. At one point, he posted a comment that read, \u201cGuys, why a lot of you are stuck in the past. You love to hate and trash me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He went on to encourage participants to watch some of his films and named a long list of them, including <em>Postal <\/em>(2007), <em>Rampage<\/em> (2009) and <em>Assault on Wall Street<\/em> (2013). \u201cOpen your eyes,\u201d he continued. \u201cForget my name and just watch the movies. Look at the ratings at Amazon and you see what the REAL AUDIENCE believes \u2026. ! You are so in love of bashing me that you forgot yourself. I wish you all a great evening and now watch soccer in TV instead of wasting my time here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Citizen Vigilante<\/em> was the subject of headlines after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/elon-musk\/\" id=\"auto-tag_elon-musk_1\" data-tag=\"elon-musk\">Elon Musk<\/a> briefly made it available <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/elon-musk-posted-armie-hammer-film-citizen-vigilante-x-1236632120\/\">to stream for free on X<\/a> following the movie getting banned in Germany amid concerns that it could incite violence against immigrants. Boll has posted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/social-media\/\" id=\"auto-tag_social-media_1\" data-tag=\"social-media\">social media<\/a> about the film having performed well on digital platforms and teased a potential sequel. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project marks <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/frontier-crucible-trailer-armie-hammer-1236411814\/\">one of Hammer\u2019s first features<\/a> since he was dropped from WME after a number of\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/armie-hammer-cannibalism-sexual-misconduct-scandal-1235924603\/\">sexual misconduct allegations<\/a>\u00a0surfaced in 2021. During a recent <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/general-news\/armie-hammer-exclusive-interview-career-scandal-1236621644\/\">interview with <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, the star recalled getting emotional after landing the role in <em>Citizen Vigilante<\/em>: \u201cI would have done a fucking cat food commercial.
