Cassell stole one of the Starship Enterprise&#8217;s antimatter fuel cells to make a weapon of mass destruction. This would make Pike and the Enterprise responsible for the extinction of an entire world, no matter if they are an arachnid species bent on Martian conquest.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-season-4-number-one-lead-incredible-missions\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn)<\/a>, Lt. La&#8217;an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), and Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia) landed on prehistoric Earth in the Cretaceous period. The destruction of the Dol&#8217;drm planet meant that its remnants became the Main Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter as it exists today (and in the 23rd century). However, Pike felt guilty that he didn&#8217;t have this information when he made his gut decision not to stop Cassell.<\/p>\n<p>The blast wave from the Dol&#8217;drm planet&#8217;s destruction destroyed Cassell&#8217;s Martian ship and shifted Mars&#8217; orbit away from the sun, which is why Mars became a dead world. Instead of outrunning the blast wave, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-spock-family\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck)<\/a> determined that the Starship Enterprise could use its energy to jump forward to the 23rd century, which is how Captain Pike and his crew got back to the future.<\/p>\n<p>However, after the USS Enterprise&#8217;s time warp, one of the asteroids from the Dol&#8217;drm planet crashed on Earth, becoming the Chicxulub impact meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. The Starship Enterprise turned out to be responsible for the end of the dinosaurs and the eventual rise of humanity as the dominant species on Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Mars&#8217; civilization was meant to die, and the Red Planet eventually became barren of life. However, Dr. Joseph M&#8217;Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) analyzed Cassell and the Martians&#8217; DNA and found similarities to the genetics of many different species. Commander Una Chin-Riley received her long-awaited promotion to full Commander, which brings Number One a step closer to commanding a starship of her own. Una&#8217;s promotion came at the request of Captain Pike, who refused a <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-commodore-ranked-worst-best\/\" target=\"_blank\">promotion to Commodore<\/a> to stay in command of the USS Enterprise, with Number One still his First Officer.<\/p>\n<section class=\"emaki-custom-block emaki-custom-note\" data-nosnippet=\"\">\n<div class=\"emaki-custom note\" id=\"custom_block_14\">\n<div class=\"custom_block-content note\">\n<p>Captain Pike was briefly promoted to Fleet Captain in <em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em> season 2, and he will be promoted to Fleet Captain again when he is no longer Captain of the Enterprise.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>Number One was played by Majel-Barrett Roddenberry when the character debuted in 1965&#8217;s &#8220;The Cage,&#8221; the first <em>Star Trek<\/em> pilot episode. &#8220;The Cage&#8221; took place in 2254, and Number One was a Lt. Commander and First Officer then. Effectively, Una has held the Lt. Commander rank for nearly a decade in <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-complete-explained-tv-movies\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Star Trek<\/em>&#8216;s timeline<\/a>, and waited 60 years for a promotion to Commander in real-world time.<\/p>\n<p>Commander Una Chin-Riley is, indeed, one step closer to becoming a Captain, and this promotion could set up Number One&#8217;s yet-to-be-revealed future after <em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em> ends in season 5. Sadly, despite serving as First Officer for over a decade, Una&#8217;s destiny is not to become <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-every-enterprise-captain-ranked-worst-best\/\" target=\"_blank\">Captain of the Enterprise<\/a>. That fate belongs to Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-illyrians-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\">Una is Illyrian<\/a>, and coming to Earth in the Cretaceous era makes her the second known alien to have visited Earth. The first aliens to come to Earth in <em>Star Trek <\/em>history are now the Dol&#8217;dm, whose ship was shot down and crash-landed. At that point, the Starfleet Officers were attacked by a dinosaur (possibly a Velociraptor), but Lt. La&#8217;an Noonien-Singh reflexively punched it.<\/p>\n<section class=\"emaki-custom-block emaki-custom-tip\" data-nosnippet=\"\">\n<div class=\"emaki-custom tip\" id=\"custom_block_21\">\n<div class=\"custom_block-content tip\">\n<p>La&#8217;an is still in a romantic relationship with Spock in<em> Star Trek: Strange New Worlds <\/em>season 4&#8217;s premiere.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>Back in the USS Enterprise&#8217;s sickbay, La&#8217;an revealed that she broke her hand punching the dinosaur but didn&#8217;t feel it. La&#8217;an fears that her Augment DNA may no longer be regressive. When Dr. M&#8217;Benga quipped, <em>&#8220;Are you going to try to conquer the galaxy now?&#8221;<\/em>, La&#8217;an missed the joke and fearfully answered, <em>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-season-3-episode-8-ending\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds <\/em>season 3&#8217;s &#8220;Four-and-a-Half Vulcans,&#8221;<\/a> La&#8217;an was transformed into Vulcan, but with the nefarious traits of a Romulan. This unleashed the dormant qualities in her DNA that made her a sinister, genetically enhanced would-be tyrant like her ancestor, Khan Noonien-Singh (Ricardo Montalban). La&#8217;an did plot to conquer the galaxy before her humanity was restored.<\/p>\n<p>However, La&#8217;an appears to be changing. Interestingly, La&#8217;an also claimed that she always had enhanced strength and reflexes, which seems like a retcon, given the number of fights that La&#8217;an has lost throughout <em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. <\/em>La&#8217;an didn&#8217;t display obvious physical superiority before, but this may now be changing, and casts a shadow on Lt.
