On Thursday morning from Seoul, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/netflix\/\" id=\"auto-tag_netflix_1\" data-tag=\"netflix\">Netflix<\/a> unveiled <em>Parasyte: Tamiya<\/em>, an upcoming Japanese season of the hit sci-fi horror series that has delighted fans with its inspired K-drama reimagining of artist Hitoshi Iwaaki\u2019s best-selling manga.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tYeon, fresh off the release of Netflix thriller series <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/netflix-human-vapor-toho-godzilla-vfx-japanese-thriller-1236638687\/\">Human Vapor<\/a><\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/train-to-busan-director-zombie-thriller-colony-deals-cannes-1236593124\/\">zombie blockbuster <em>Colony<\/em><\/a>, returns as the lead creative force behind the show, having developed its story and co-written all episodes with his regular collaborator Ryu Yong-jae. Netflix says the new season is already in post-production and will premiere on the service sometime in 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe original <em>Parasyte: The Grey<\/em> spent four weeks on Netflix\u2019s Global Top 10 Non-English TV list in 2024 and topped the rankings in 34 countries upon its release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhereas the original season\u2019s novelty came from transplanting Iwaaki\u2019s classic manga to a South Korean setting, the new chapter is said to burrow more deeply into the original source material. Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna, best known to global viewers for her recurring part in the <em>Deadpool<\/em> franchise, stars as Ryoko Tamiya, a parasite who seizes the body of a high school teacher and \u2014 initially as ruthless as the rest of her kind \u2014 gradually comes to suspect that coexistence with humans, rather than predation, may offer her species its best chance of survival. His projects at the streamer as a creator, director or writer include <em>Hellbound<\/em> (two seasons), sci-fi feature <em>Jung_E<\/em>, occult chiller <em>The Bequeathed<\/em>, <em>Parasyte: The Grey<\/em>, last year\u2019s <em>Revelations<\/em> and the just-launched <em>The Human Vapor<\/em>, his big-budget Japanese series collaboration with Toho. He\u2019s kept just as busy as a theatrical filmmaker. <em>Colony<\/em>, the Cannes Midnight-premiered zombie thriller starring Jun Ji-hyun that returned him to <em>Train to Busan<\/em> territory, has grossed $42.4 million in South Korea since late May, making it one of the year\u2019s biggest Korean hits. He\u2019s simultaneously been experimenting with ultra-low-budget filmmaking, having released mystery thriller <em>The Ugly<\/em> last year, and with the AI-themed thriller <em>Paradise Lost<\/em> set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFor <em>Parasyte: Tamiya<\/em>, Yeon reunites with <em>Grey<\/em> co-writer Ryu Yong-jae, while Japanese filmmakers Kensaku Kakimoto (<em>Glass Heart<\/em>) and Kazuhiro Nakagawa (<em>Double<\/em>, <em>Bullet Train Explosion<\/em>) direct the episodes.
