Wowpoint, the production company behind Yeon\u2019s \u201cHuman Vapor\u201d and \u201cParasyte: The Grey,\u201d is producing. Kakimoto Kensaku (\u201cGlass Heart\u201d) and Nakagawa Kazuhiro (\u201cDouble,\u201d \u201cBullet Train Explosion\u201d) are directing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cParasyte: The Grey\u201d spent four weeks on Netflix\u2019s Global Top 10 Non-English TV list and reached No. 1 in 34 countries following its 2024 release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the original manga, Ryoko Tamiya is a parasite who takes over the body of a high school teacher, initially violent and indiscriminate before gradually learning from her human surroundings. Witnessing a parasite and human sharing a single body leads her to wonder whether coexistence might offer her species a better chance of survival than conflict. \u201cParasyte: Tamiya\u201d tells the story from her perspective, tracking the original human, the parasite who inhabits her and the creature caught between both worlds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKutsuna (\u201cSanctuary,\u201d \u201cDeadpool 2,\u201d \u201cGundam\u201d) plays Ryoko Tamiya across three registers: the original human, the parasite after it takes over and the parasite as it struggles to interact with humanity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYeon said, \u201cHer struggles over the nature of her own existence are what elevate the original \u2018Parasyte\u2019 from a simple hero-based manga aimed at kids to something deeper. I think the anguish she experiences is the essence of \u2018Parasyte.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYeon was also asked about his choice of lead. \u201cI\u2019m sure that was a big challenge for Kutsuna as an actor,\u201d he said. \u201cI think she did a wonderful job of portraying the process of a non-human creature coming to understand both humanity and its own existence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn the choice of directors, Yeon said, \u201cI chose these two directors precisely because they have such different styles, and I had high hopes for a collaboration between them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKutsuna said, \u201cRyoko Tamiya is the most challenging role I have ever played in my acting career.
