{"id":14047,"date":"2026-07-23T00:18:45","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T19:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=14047"},"modified":"2026-07-23T00:18:45","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T19:18:45","slug":"brian-mast-scolds-gregory-meeks-over-rubio-during-hearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=14047","title":{"rendered":"Brian Mast Scolds Gregory Meeks Over Rubio During Hearing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-body\">\n<p>House Foreign Affairs Chair <strong>Brian Mast<\/strong> (R-FL) scolded Rep. <strong>Gregory Meeks<\/strong> (D-NY), ranking member on the committee, over Meek\u2019s claim that Secretary of State <strong>Marco Rubio<\/strong> has avoided testifying before Congress on the Iran war.<\/p>\n<p>During a Wednesday House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/you-should-resign-house-democrat-absolutely-unleashes-on-trumps-un-ambassador-in-fiery-hearing-moment-on-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hearing<\/a>, Meeks pressed United Nations Ambassador<strong> Mike Waltz<\/strong> on increased costs amid the ongoing war and plans to end the conflict. He took a shot at Rubio and accused him of presenting no plan to Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s coming back now asking the Senate and he\u2019ll be asking the House about $300 billion more. He\u2019s not come to Congress. He has not talked about and talked with us on how we end this war,\u201d Meeks said.<\/p>\n<p>Waltz jumped in to note that Rubio has discussed the war with congressional members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecretary Rubio has been before Congress,\u201d Waltz said, noting Rubio has been to the Capitol for hearings.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/screaming-protestor-berates-marco-rubio-for-serving-israel-during-wild-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appeared<\/a> before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the House Appropriations Subcommittee, and the House Foreign Affairs Committee in early June.<\/p>\n<p>Meeks, who is the former chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, claimed Rubio \u201chas not answered the questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m taking advantage of everybody that is coming here because unfortunately there\u2019s been no oversight in this committee and you have been the face of this war at the UN, sir,\u201d the lawmaker said.<\/p>\n<p>Mast then jumped in to put Meeks on blast, accusing him of forgetting Rubio\u2019s testimony because the NYC congressman left the hearing halfway through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou may not recall the oversight of Secretary Rubio just about a month ago, because you left halfway through and never came back, so maybe you forgot about it. That might make sense,\u201d Mast told Meeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not, he has not, have we had \u2014 he came here\u2014\u201d Meeks began as Mast continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou probably don\u2019t remember because you missed half of it,\u201d the chair said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t miss half of it. I could see it in my office. You don\u2019t know what I missed,\u201d Meeks fired back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know what you missed. I know you weren\u2019t sitting here next to the rest of us,\u201d Mast said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know we have not had any hearings in Oversight. I know that,\u201d Meeks said.<\/p>\n<p>Mast took another shot before moving on, thanking Meeks for attending a classified briefing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso, I would thank you for attending Monday\u2019s classified briefing.
