At the same time, his daughter Melanie was battling stage 4 breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, both father and daughter were declared cancer-free by late 2024. They are now sharing their story ahead of the launch of a new podcast series, <em>No Time but Now<\/em>, on which they will interview health experts and fellow cancer survivors.<\/p>\n<p>Shatner told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/william-shatner-daughter-melanie-fought-stage-4-cancer-together-exclusive-12023877\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">People<\/a><\/em> that his diagnosis came after he discovered a lump on the back of his neck and was urged by a plastic surgeon friend to have it examined. He subsequently underwent surgery to remove the tumor, followed by two years of immunotherapy targeting the cancer in his lungs and brain.<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember vividly thinking, \u2018I don\u2019t have the strength to take care of myself and lose my father at the same time,\u2019\u201d Melanie told <em>People<\/em> of learning about her father\u2019s diagnosis while undergoing treatment herself.<\/p>\n<p>Shatner, however, maintained a positive outlook: \u201cThey said, \u2018You\u2019ve got cancer. If you came in later, you would have been dead.\u2019 See? That\u2019s my life. I think the universe is taking care of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With cancer behind him, Shatner is now moving ahead with plans for his first-ever <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/02\/william-shatner-metal-album\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heavy metal album<\/a>. The forthcoming project will see the 95-year-old Shatner cover songs by Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, and more, backed by supergroup led by ex-Megadeth axeman Chris Poland.
