Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/4604902\/funniest-tweets-memes-reactions-highly-anticipated-avengers-doomsday-trailer\/\" id=\"4604902\">Marvel<\/a> Studios president Kevin Feige is getting candid about the project\u2019s rocky journey and admits he is just as disappointed as fans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/kevin-feige-says-he-feels-like-a-gigantic-loser-and-failure-that-mahershala-ali-blade-never-got-made-12022905?utm_source=chatgpt.com\"><em>People<\/em><\/a>, Feige addressed the long-delayed film during an appearance on the <em>Happy Sad Confused<\/em> podcast, where host Josh Horowitz jokingly asked how much \u201ctherapy\u201d the Marvel boss had needed over <em>Blade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than dodge the question, Feige leaned into the joke before offering one of his most honest comments yet about the troubled production.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m feeling very excited that we got Wesley back for a time in <em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em> and like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn\u2019t get off the ground with Mahershala,\u201d Feige admitted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That confession is likely to hit Marvel fans hard, especially considering how much excitement surrounded Ali\u2019s surprise appearance at San Diego Comic Con in 2019. Ali walked onstage with a <em>Blade<\/em> cap to officially announce he would inherit the iconic vampire hunter role from Wesley Snipes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, the reboot has since become one of Marvel\u2019s most infamous development headaches. The project cycled through multiple writers and directors, experienced repeated release date delays, and underwent several creative overhauls before Disney ultimately removed it from its theatrical calendar in late 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Feige previously explained that Marvel refused to move forward unless the film met the studio\u2019s increasingly high creative standards.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe didn\u2019t want to simply just put a leather outfit on him and have him start killing vampires. It had to be unique,\u201d he said in 2025. \u201cOnly accept insanely great.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Feige added that Marvel did not feel confident it could elevate the script during production, saying the studio \u201cdidn\u2019t want to do that to Mahershala Ali and didn\u2019t want to do that to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ali, however, has never publicly backed away from the role. During an interview with <em>Variety<\/em> in 2025, the two-time Academy Award winner shared that he is still waiting on the call.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCall Marvel,\u201d Ali said. \u201cI\u2019m ready. Let them know I\u2019m ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em> arriving later this month and <em>Avengers: Doomsday<\/em> following later this year, Marvel has plenty on its plate.
