Philippe<\/a>\u2019s  two-parter doc feature \u201cThe Fall,\u201d which is set to be unveiled July 22 at Fantasia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/frontieres-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_frontieres-2\" data-tag=\"frontieres-2\">Fronti\u00e8res<\/a> as part of its <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/global\/toronto-market-frontieres-genre-showcase-1236760871\/\">International Co-Production Market<\/a> pitch event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA two-part film, \u201cThe Fall\u201d will be produced by Medianoche Productions, behind Philippe\u2019s 2025 Venice-premiering doc \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/kim-novaks-vertigo-review-1236503929\/\">Kim Novak\u2019s Vertigo<\/a>.\u201d Medianoche producer Terri Pi\u00f1on and writer-director Philippe are reunited with France\u2019s Tell Me Films, their producing partner on the Novak film. The partners are also teamed up with France\u2019s Thunderbug Productions for the new title.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWith a pre-sale to France\u2019s Cine+ also locked, Pi\u00f1on and Philippe land at Fronti\u00e8res looking for an international sales agent and financing partners for a project that is not only in production \u2013 with roughly a year to go \u2013 but also gathering momentum as it moves towards a milestone plot point in cinema history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re building \u2018The Fall\u2019 as a two-part event, with separate premieres for Part I and Part II, for \u2018Vertigo\u2019s\u2019 70th anniversary in 2028 that will be the cinephile event of the year,\u201d Pi\u00f1on said. \u201cWith the cast we\u2019re securing, the French pre-sale, the co-production structure, and early interest from some of the most prestigious festivals, it\u2019s set up for a spectacular rollout to ride the \u2018Vertigo\u2019 anniversary buzz throughout 2028.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe working title \u201cThe Fall\u201d refers to the iconic and fascinatingly ambiguous finale of Hitchcock\u2019s \u201cVertigo.\u201d When Judy plummets to her death from the belltower, the viewer is never shown exactly how it happens, and instead is shown 57 frames of Scottie\u2019s face as he watches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe film is structured as a film-noir investigation of the fall and the emotions and ideas it inspires. Philippe, whose 2024 Venice Classics Lion winner \u201cChain Reactions\u201d explores the impact of Tobe Hooper\u2019s \u201cThe Texas Chain Saw Massacre\u201d 50 years after its release, said he wants to \u201cinhabit\u201d rather than solve the riddle of the fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEach interview subject offers \u201ca different version of the truth,\u201d said Philippe, who has called te \u201cVertigo\u201d finale Hitchcock\u2019s \u2018biggest mystery.\u2019 \u201cEach version reveals something intimate about the person telling it.
