His wife Svetlana, was seated three rows behind him on the flight.  <span class=\"credit\">Karovic Ljubisa \/ Facebook<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Although the father-of-two suffered serious burns and bruises on his right arm, which span from his armpit to chest, he is counting his lucky stars to be alive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am lucky,\u201d Karovi\u0107 told the publication. \u201cI don\u2019t remember much and my head and neck still hurt, but I am still alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Doctors advised Karovi\u0107 that his recovery will be slow and he must be in a neck brace for the next six weeks, by which point they will determine if surgery is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could have been the seatbelt, the fact that I was still strapped in,\u201d Karovi\u0107 said of his survival. \u201cBut maybe it is fate.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cI don\u2019t remember much and my neck and head still hurt but I am alive,\u201d Karovi\u0107 told The Guardian in an interview.  <span class=\"credit\">@Osint613\/X<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI believe in God and I thank him every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But to Karovi\u0107\u2019s lawyer Vasilis Tsiaras, the 61-year-old, who was traveling to Germany for his brother\u2019s birthday, is \u201calive by mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLjubisa dipped in and out of death,\u201d Tsiaras said. \u201cWhen the cabin lost pressure, he was hurled out of the window from his chest up and immediately lost consciousness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt 15,000 feet he ended up with his head and right arm outside the aircraft as it moved at a speed of more than 600km\/h [373 mph]. Imagine that!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looked at death, that other world, and came back,\u201d the Greek lawyer added.<\/p>\n<p>Karovi\u0107\u2019s wife, Svetlana, was seated three rows behind him and rushed over to grab her husband, who was \u201chalf in and out of the plane\u201d for around one-and-a-half to two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of the cabin crew helped. It was the passengers,\u201d Svetlana said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne man, I think he was an Albanian, was incredible. He did all he could to bring him in and then tried to block the window, first with a bag that was immediately sucked out and then with a suitcase, which worked.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Karovi\u0107\u2019s lawyer argues that the cabin crew on board \u201cwas in a state of shock\u201d and it was the passengers who provided assistance.   <span class=\"credit\">@Osint613\/X<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe are eternally grateful to him,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>While Ryanair has defended the performance of the on-board cabin crew, saying they did a \u201cphenomenal job,\u201d Tsiaras disputes this, according to The Guardian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have no complaint with the pilot, who followed the safety protocols and dealt with the situation very well,\u201d Tsiaras said, referring to the rapid descent pilots are forced to make in the event of a plane losing cabin pressure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy client fainted two or three times, once outside the aircraft when he was partially sucked out of the window, and twice inside when, again, he lost consciousness. At no point did the cabin crew offer to help,\u201d the lawyer alleged.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The US NTSB announced Thursday it is investigating the incident.  <span class=\"credit\">Despoina Papapavlou via REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tsiaras argues that, citing witness testimony, \u201ceveryone agreed that the crew was in a state of shock, afraid that the plane was about to crash,\u201d and that it was the passengers on board who \u201crallied\u201d and provided assistance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, in a statement to the outlet, Ryanair said that during the process of depressurization and rapid descent, all passengers and crew are required to stay seated and put on oxygen masks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as the aircraft descended to a safe altitude, our cabin crew attended to and assisted Mr Karovi\u0107, moving him to alternate seats (beside his wife) and arranged for a doctor onboard to sit with them until the aircraft landed safely back in Thessaloniki,\u201d and \u201carranged to have medical assistance standing by on landing in Thessaloniki.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Karovi\u0107\u2019s wife Svetlana described the horror of seeing her husband \u201chalf in and out of the plane.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Despoina Papapavlou via REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to the outlet, Karovi\u0107\u2019s son, who made the ticket booking on behalf of his father, has been contacted by Ryanair, but neither Karovi\u0107 nor his wife have been contacted or received any support or assistance from the budget airline.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are images that come back, the noise of the explosion, the chaos, but I want to recover,\u201d\u00a0 Karovi\u0107 said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cThere are images that come back, the noise of the explosion, the chaos, but I want to recover,\u201d\u00a0 Karovi\u0107 said. <span class=\"credit\">@Osint613\/X<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAnd, yes, there should be compensation too.
