Superhero movies are typically front-loaded, which is the reason why no one is expecting <em>Odyssey <\/em>to comp to the <em>Dark Knight<\/em> holds. The latter is expected to outstrip the former\u2019s record $123.5M opening for a live-action movie this year, and potentially even <em>Toy Story 5<\/em>\u2018s highest 3-day to date in 2026 of $159.6M. Instead, specialty distributors like IFC have their TIFF acquisition, the dialogue-less noir <strong><em>Motor City <\/em><\/strong>from Potsy Ponciroli, and starring Alan Ritchson, Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster and Ben McKenzie. Ritchson plays a tough guy who falls for a local gangster\u2019s girl. He gets framed by Foster\u2019s kingpin and then enacts a revenge campaign. Booked at 1,600 theaters, the outlook is in the <strong>low single digits<\/strong>. Currently, the pic counts around $5M in advance tickets sales and could file anywhere between <strong>$7M-$10M<\/strong>. Bleecker is releasing through their event cinema division Crosswalk and LD Entertainment. <em>Hadestown: The Musical<\/em>\u00a0was shot in London on the West End last year and includes the five original principals of the Broadway company: Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Andr\u00e9 De Shields\u2019 Tony Award-winning turn as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and Patrick Page as Hades. The pic is booked in around 700 sites and is also eyeing a <strong>low single digit start<\/strong>. Refn has been road-showing the movie across the nation with stops in L.A., Chicago, and New York. It\u2019s Refn\u2019s first movie in ten years, his last being 2016\u2019s <em>Neon Demon <\/em>which was made by Amazon but released by the then Broad Green Pictures before the streamer had a distribution arm. <em>Her Private Hell, <\/em>tells the story of an actress, and a former soldier whose lives are complicated by a killer in the city. The pic, which was largely funded by foreign sales, cost less than <em>Neon Demon<\/em>\u2018s $7.5M. Mubi bought out most of the world and has the prime Euro territories such as the UK and Italy which are going in September. This weekend, <em>Her Private Hell <\/em>will bow in Russia, Singapore, Greece, Portugal and Turkey.
