{"id":12982,"date":"2026-07-21T22:54:30","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T17:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=12982"},"modified":"2026-07-21T22:54:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T17:54:30","slug":"inside-the-5b-plan-to-expand-resorts-world-new-york-city-into-largest-gaming-resort-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=12982","title":{"rendered":"Inside the $5B plan to expand Resorts World New York City into largest gaming resort in the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F07%2F135054745.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>New renderings show a planned $5 billion expansion of the Big Apple\u2019s first-full fledged casino that will transform it into the largest integrated gaming resort in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Resorts World New York City near the former Aqueduct race track in Queens will launch the next phase of the expansion Wednesday \u2014 complete with a second 400-room hotel tower and a 7,000-person concert arena.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Resorts World New York City near the former Aqueduct race track in Queens will launch the next phase of the expansion Wednesday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This groundbreaking comes a day after Resorts World unveiled its first-floor expansion, putting an additional 1,400 slot machines online and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>The Post obtained renderings<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/28\/us-news\/7000-seat-concert-hall-planned-as-part-of-resorts-world-casino-expansion-at-nycs-aqueduct-racetrack\/\"> of the expanded <\/a>complex, which will include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completing the Kenny \u201cThe Jet\u201d Sports and Media Complex three years earlier than initially planned. <br \/>The \u201cJet Center\u201d is named after Queens hoops legend Kenny \u201cThe Jet\u201d Smith, who won two NBA championships with the Houston Rockets and is now a TV basketball commentator.<\/li>\n<li>A second 400-room Hyatt hotel tower and a new luxury Crockfords hotel, adding to the existing 400-room Hyatt Regency hotel that opened in 2021. Eventually, 2,000 hotel rooms will serve Resorts World gamblers and other guests.<\/li>\n<li>A new central plaza and 7,000-person multipurpose arena for concerts.<\/li>\n<li>A new parking garage with thousands of solar panels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Digital slot machines at Resort World, a casino in Ozone Park, Queens. <span class=\"credit\">Stephen Yang for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The casino, which was awarded a state gaming license to offer live table games after featuring slot machines since 2011, became the first full Las Vegas-style <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/20\/us-news\/time-to-deal-first-nyc-casino-with-live-table-games-opens-april-28\/\">casino <\/a>in the the five boroughs earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>It now offers Blackjack, craps, baccarat and roulette at 240 tables on the first, second and third floors of the casino.<\/p>\n<p>It also features nearly 4,000 slot machines, including 1,400 that came online Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Already one of Queens\u2019 largest employers, Resorts World had employed 2,200 people, and the expansion will provide an estimated 500-2,700 additional jobs by summer\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Chairman KT Lim, Nasir Jones (Nas), and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards roll dice at a new craps table. <span class=\"credit\">Stephen Yang for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The state Gaming Commission<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/01\/us-news\/ny-state-board-oks-3-casino-licenses-for-nyc-and-trump-org-can-get-115m\/\"> also awarded two <\/a>other gaming licenses for full casinos in Gotham.<\/p>\n<p>New York Mets owner Steve Cohen and Hard Rock are planning a \u201cMetropolitan Park\u201d casino complex near Citi Field in Flushing, Queens \u2014 while Bally\u2019s plans to open a Bronx casino on the property of President Trump\u2019s former golf course at Ferry Point near the Whitestone Bridge \u2014 a move that nets the Trump Organization up to $115 million.<\/p>\n<p>But Resorts World, owned and operated by the Malaysian-based Genting Group, is ahead of the game because it already had the existing and operational slots-only facility.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Casino at Resort World. <span class=\"credit\">Stephen Yang for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The other licensed casino operators are building from scratch, with years before they will be ready to open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Resorts World NYC is not only spending $5.5 billion for its expansion but it has s proposed a $2 billion community benefits package, with a commitment to build up to 50,000 units of workforce housing across the five boroughs, as well as a $100 million infrastructure improvement package.<\/p>\n<p>The casino anticipates paying a total $10.8 billion in state and local tax payments during the first 10 years of its expansion.<\/p>\n<p>It also is expected to generate $2.5 billion for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority through its $500 million gaming license fee, $2 billion in new revenue and $2 billion for the state public education system.<\/p>\n<p>Resorts World reports it has generated more than $5 billion in revenue for New York State\u2019s public education system since opening in 2011.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New renderings show a planned $5 billion expansion of the Big Apple\u2019s first-full fledged casino that will transform it into the largest integrated gaming resort in the country.
