But according to the comic, her closing joke won\u2019t be seen in the Netflix broadcast of the event, which streams on July 21.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCummings said earlier in July that one of her jokes about <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/donald-trump\/\" id=\"auto-tag_donald-trump\" data-tag=\"donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> was cut after she performed it in rehearsal. But on a July 18 episode of her \u201cGood for You\u201d podcast, she revealed that another joke targeting the president, which did make it into her set, will be edited out of the Netflix broadcast. (\u201cDonald Trump couldn\u2019t make it tonight. He got caught in sex traffic,\u201d goes the joke, which nods to the president\u2019s former association with Jeffrey Epstein.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt stayed in, and then they said we would like to cut it out,\u201d Cummings said, without clarifying who \u201cthey\u201d are. A Netflix spokesperson tells <em>Variety<\/em>, \u201cWhile it\u2019s our preference not to cut jokes from anyone\u2019s set, The Kennedy Center has the contractual right to do so.\u201d\u00a0(Cummings also posted on X, \u201cI was super clear that Netflix did not cut anything from my Mark Twain prize set. Netflix always supports comedy and comics. Quit spreading rumors ya weirdos.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCummings added on her podcast that the venue staffers are \u201camazing\u201d and \u201cdon\u2019t want to silence anyone.\u201d \u201cIt is true that their boss is Donald Trump, so they did their job,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSince she had performed the \u201csex traffic\u201d joke on stage, it had already leaked online after the ceremony. Her reaction to being asked to remove it from the telecast was: \u201cIt\u2019s already out there. Who cares?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThey\u2019re like, \u2018He will sue you,&#8217;\u201d Cummings said, referring to Trump. At first, she didn\u2019t buy it, but then she remembered Trump filed a lawsuit against Maher in 2013 after Maher joked that Trump was the \u201cspawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCummings thought it was ironic that she was being censored at the ceremony for the Mark Twain Prize, which is \u201cabout comedians using humor to criticize our elected officials.\u201d According to the Kennedy Center website, the prize (which has previously been awarded to George Carlin, Tina Fey, Eddie Murphy, Jon Stewart and others) recognizes people who share \u201cfearless\u201d observations and an \u201cuncompromising\u201d perspective on society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI am so clear now that when somebody gets offended by something, they are guilty of the thing,\u201d Cummings said of Trump. \u201cI just think it\u2019s a little weird that we can\u2019t joke about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCummings did perform another joke about Trump that made it into the broadcast, about how the president has sway over the programming of the Kennedy Center. \u201cEnjoy this fall\u2019s three-month run of white \u2018Hamilton,&#8217;\u201d she quipped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe joke implying he\u2019s racist \u2014 no problems,\u201d Cummings said on her podcast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cBill Maher: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor\u201d is now available to stream on Netflix. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whitney Cummings performed a comedy set at Bill Maher\u2019s Mark Twain Prize ceremony, which took place on June 28 at the Kennedy Center.
